Additive Manufacturing De-Powdering System

Hi Guys,

This is my third AcornCNC retrofit and I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

At work we use a laser-melting additive manufacturing system. We can print fully dense parts out of extremely tough materials (Inconel, titanium, etc) with wrought properties and in virtually any shape. It's awesome!

With that freedom comes new challenges, the parts (some extremely intricate and convoluted) end up full of powder which must be painstakingly removed by shaking, rotating, and tapping a 40 pound build plate with an extra 5-30 pounds of 3D printed part on top. This used to mean hours of shaking and hammering to exhaustion.

We designed and fabricated a 2-axis trunnion running clearpath servos to automate this de-powdering process. All axes continuously rotate via slip rings and rotary unions, and filtered air is available via m-code to the b-axis platform to turn a vibrator on and off (helps free powder).

Thanks to everyone on the forums for helping teach me the Centroid way!

Regards,

- Austin
