I don't have a "Medium Detail" setting at the moment. Haven't come across that situation yet. Since my values for fine detail are basically "Maxed", you could take the pertinent values (like #221, 222, 226, and 227) and halve them compared to "Precision Router" and "Fine" and give it a try. #226 or W is the one that really seems to make a difference for the change in Z detail (which 3D consists of).

Most of what I do needs higher detail and a smaller radius ball nose, so I haven't tried loosening it up a bit. This one took 6.5 hours and is approx. 25" x 4.5" in the cut area. Just finished another one this week that took 14 hours with a 2mm ball nose (just for the finish pass).

"How do I charge".... Not enough! It's tough with this kind of stuff. If I charged a standard set amount for machine time, it would be too high for most of my customers in my region. I try to get a fair amount for computer time and finishing time/supplies and then whatever I think I can add on for machine time. While it's cutting, I can work on other things. I've kind of settled on so much per size of 3D and if it has text that needs to be filled. Many of them have been on customer supplied slabs too, so I take that into account. I don't have to go out and find pieces, just figure out how to put what they would like on theirs.

Here's the one that took 14 hours to run. This one did take some time to layout and get the waterfall sculpted to where I was satisfied with it.

Here are a few more 3D Christmas orders and a couple of little lasered log cut offs using the beta release with PWM control for lasers. Just purchased the deer family model and it has some real nice detail! Had to flatten it a little for the thickness of the board, but it still kept nice detail. It was cut with a 1mm tapered ballnose and took 5 hours. It's approx. 6" x 11.5" x 0.6875" Will be running that one again on a larger scale for sure.

How is the log cut? I thought it was just an angled slice, by t that wouldn’t yield bark at n both sides.

Thanks. They're about a 45º slice. Bark angling up on one end and down on the other.

Hi,

I know this thread is a bit older but it is right up my alley.

This is my first post.

I am NOT new to CNC.

I currently have a Mach3 control but SERIOSLY considering upgrading to Centroid Acorn.

I use Vectric Aspire.

I am learning about Centroid and wondering about "possibilities".

So - I like the notion of live edge plaques and have created a small few.

I also work with rough sawn and barn board.

The big issue is that it is not flat nor smooth. I want it to stay that way.

On my Centroid list of MUST haves is the probing.

I am certain I can probe the perimeter. I can "painfully" do that now with simply X-Y positions on the display.

My question is - Can I probe the top - rough - surface and create a "modeling" surface using CNC 12 Pro - Acorn BOB - and create an STL, or whatever surface that I can project to 3D surface in Aspire.
