Re: Acorn machine height problems -- please help

The tool is 3.329 high. IMG_8763.JPG IMG_8765.JPG The probe is 6.091 just as the LED turns ON IMG_8766.JPG So the tool is 2.762 SHORTER than the probe. All the tools in my library (except for T4 which is a 1/4 drill in an ER20 collet) are shorter than the probe, and I thought the positive offset is ...

Re: Acorn machine height problems -- please help

The tools are configured in the library, btw.
Tool 1 is the probe and its height and diameter are set.
Tool 2 is the spot drill. Its offset and diameter are also set.

Acorn machine height problems -- please help

Having completed the conversion of my new PM-728VT to CNC, I am ready to learn machining. As a trial, I would like to do spot drilling, but am running into trouble regarding Z-height. First, I found the corner of the scrap I am using, with the KP-3 and zeroed X and Y. IMG_8752.JPG Then I move the pr...

Re: Newbie converting a PM-728VT

After a long absence, during which I had emergency surgery, then recuperated, and took a long planned (and delayed) safari to Kenya, I am back at the conversion. Have basically finished the enclosure and the electronics. Here is the current state of the control using a Rittal box: IMG_8174.JPG And a...

Re: Newbie converting a PM-728VT

I will be first to admit my complete ignorance about electronics, but I did the centroid measurement to map commanded and measured voltage with the benchmark range (0-3000) then adjusted in the Wizard the range to my actual spindle speeds. So I would expect that the Acorn will command 10 volts if it...

Re: Newbie converting a PM-728VT

s50: nothing happens, no spinning at all s2125: 3252 rpm s4250: 4400 rpm s100 doesn't spin either s200: 170-180 rpm s230: 230rpm (it varies a few rpms of course) s250: 270rpm s300: 400 RPM s500: 900 rpm Wouldn't the encoder loop back and change the voltage as needed? Otherwise what's the point of th...

Re: Newbie converting a PM-728VT

I just turned the mill on for the first operation, and when I give an MDI command of 'S1400 M3', it spins at about 2200 RPM. I have previously done the Wizard calibration, using 3000 and 0 as limits, ran the spindle bench test and entered the voltages (1.66 etc), hen set the speed limits to 4250 and...

Re: Newbie converting a PM-728VT

I have a KP-3 probe on order from Centroid, and am wondering what it's like to use it. The video I saw shows th probe in a toolholder, then you swap out the whole toolholder. Is it possible to use a BT40 or similar tool holder in the PM 728?

Re: Newbie converting a PM-728VT

I had just discovered you want to move the enable jumpers on Axis used from HARD enable to SOFT enable. This way if you get a drive fault you can reset the drives by cycling the Estop button. Also the motors will not enable until CNC12 is in the ready state (NoFault relay output closes) THANK YOU f...

Re: Newbie converting a PM-728VT

Thank you for the suggestion, I have just sent in a request to join Valley Metal. As for the drawbar, I made a simple bracket that connects the encoder to a second L bracket that attaches to the motor housing. Screen Shot 2021-03-11 at 9.01.17 AM.png This way I can attach and remove the encoder quic...
