makes perfect sense. That was my approach too. Get it running first, then figure out what improvements to make.
Best of luck on the project!

Re: Are The Moon's TSM Integrated Step-Servo Motor Compatible With Acorn?
oh weird. That is strange. I guess they are using the coupler as a way to put contact bearings in it too for support. As opposed to having those separate. I imagine as long as its bored out perfectly concentric (or as close as possible) there wouldn't be any issues. I don't like that it uses a setsc...

Re: Are The Moon's TSM Integrated Step-Servo Motor Compatible With Acorn?
They come in two "flavors" - Regular and Enhanced. The regular is 1/800th of a turn resolution and the enhanced is 1/6400 of a turn. Unless you are really really strapped for cash or can get a screaming deal on the regular the enhanced is only about $45 USD more and I think worth it. You c...

Re: Advice on converting a Sharp engine lathe to CNC
Keith, The sharp is a manual lathe with 8ft between centers? That a big boy for a conversion. Just thinking briefly about the conversion, I would compare it to the value proposition of the Haas: Haas is 10K, gets you a slant lathe with linear guides, tool turret, motorized tail stock, full enclosure...

Re: Are The Moon's TSM Integrated Step-Servo Motor Compatible With Acorn?
Based on reading the manual briefly I think they should be compatible. If you were going to go with the integrated step and dir servos I would suggest going for the clearpath SDSK ones from Teknic. There is way more information about them on the forum and online and many folks with successful build,...

Re: Spindle Motor Recommendations
Yes, it seems the analog board option (https://www.teknic.com/files/downloads/ASU_manual.pdf) that Teknic offers for the MC line of integrated servos (made for velocity control rather than positional) will take in a 0-10v signal as well as a direction signal (when high CC when pulled low CCW, I imag...

Thanks for the quick reply Marty! I will look at those websites!

Re: Spindle Motor Recommendations
And now for a third post (hopefully this stuff will come in handy for someone else one day!) It seems Teknic offers an analog to digital converter board as well: https://www.teknic.com/files/downloads/ASU_manual.pdf About 60 dollars, but interfaces with their motors specifically. I think I would go ...

Re: Spindle Motor Recommendations
Just to double post here: I have been doing research all morning and I stumbled across another clearpath servo on ebay that took me down quite the rabbit hole. I am now also considering going this route: https://www.teknic.com/model-info/CPM-MCVC-N1433A-RLN_Fan/?model_voltage=230VAC1ph It won't spin...

Spindle Motor Recommendations
Hi all! I have been very happy with running my CNC mill these last couple of month and have been cranking out parts I have designed, but the big bottleneck in my mill currently is the spindle motor. From the factory the Precision Mathews PM-728VT comes with a 1hp brushless DC motor for the spindle. ...
