Re: 1997 Bridgeport Romi CNC flat bed lathe Easy Path S

That is why I recommended sending it out for repair. Mark did mention a company TIE that he implies services these. I would send it off. Something caused that fuse to blow. Funny how the blown fuse error message is PUF...like you let out a puff of the magic smoke from the fuse. While it is out...

Re: 1997 Bridgeport Romi CNC flat bed lathe Easy Path S

Fuses don't blow for no reason. Don't just stick a new one in there and try it. Find the problem. It seems unusual that the motor windings would all be shorted, and I don't think they are. It is not unusual for windings on larger motors to be less than 1 ohm. I assume that you zeroed out the lead re...

Re: 1997 Bridgeport Romi CNC flat bed lathe Easy Path S

Mark, it should be really easy to trace which wires go to the motor, then you know the other group of 3 heavy conductors is the power in. I do see "IN" showing in the picture on the left connectors. That may say INPUT ? It doesn't matter which of the set of 3 inputs you connect power to. J...

Re: 1997 Bridgeport Romi CNC flat bed lathe Easy Path S

Is this not a spindle motor?? It ran like a 7.5 HP machine for a little while when I first bought it. Looks like it to me  I think Marty and myself were looking at the amperage on the label and it says 0.45, so I am confused. 45 amps would be about correct. As for the existing VFD, you really ...

Re: 1997 Bridgeport Romi CNC flat bed lathe Easy Path S

Yeah, I am with Marty. That is the coolant pump motor. Current is way too low. Even if you baby the machine you should not use a smaller VFD. It is the startup current that will take the VFD out, and as I mentioned a lathe has a very large inertial load presented to the motor. It is far harder to st...

Re: 1997 Bridgeport Romi CNC flat bed lathe Easy Path S

You are going to need a 3 phase VFD. There might be one out there that is designed for single phase @7.5 hp, but I think it is an off brand. You can run a 3 phase VFD on single phase, but you need to derate the VFD. The general rule of thumb is to double the HP, ie a 15 hp vfd for a 7.5 hp motor, bu...

Re: 1997 Bridgeport Romi CNC flat bed lathe Easy Path S

If the converter is for CNC applications then no need to worry about the generated leg. If it were my machine I would tear it all out and make it single phase. A VFD capable of running that spindle is less money than the rotary converter. Beyond the spindle, you are still dealing with 25 year old el...

Re: 1997 Bridgeport Romi CNC flat bed lathe Easy Path S

Mark, You can run that VFD on single phase for a short period of time and it will be fine. You can purchase a larger VFD and run it on single phase and have the whole machine single phase (provided drives are single phase). The old rule of thumb is to double the horsepower rating of the VFD when run...

Re: KP-3 Probe Woes

I know Marty. I have been using Centroid products since 2010. They have always done the right thing and they are doing it now. I just want to make sure my probe is trustworthy, which so far it has not been. My repair report said that they cleaned it out, then the next day they reported to have repla...

Re: KP-3 Probe Woes

what happens when you use the standard Centroid Bore cycle? (not the probe app) They work perfect just like the ProbeApp cycles do (when it is not sticking). The issue is sticking KP-3. There are no problems when the probe is not stuck. As I stated above, TripMap shows that the trip to un-trip dist...
