Re: Twisted pair, shielded cables for servo signal wiring?
The reason I ask - I already ordered this Shielded D-Sub cable and was planning to re-wire the servo signal cabling with it. It includes a 9th conductor so grounding the shield will be easier than CAT5, however it is not twisted pair. Do we agree that twisted pair is unnecessary? Also not sure why ...

Re: home / limit vs home and limit switch
Like slodat and Tom, I use individually configured inputs, but as home, not limit. This will allow the machine to home to them. Then set soft limits to take care of the machine travel As Captain Obvious just pointed out on a simple three axis machine you need three switches for the machine to home ...

They should all be grounded to a common buss bar in the cabinet like in the pic below.

Re: Show me your Custom VCP's!
That's because they are fixed in size and location.
I did however edit all the buttons down there, hell, I edited EVERY button on the VCP. If you want to change the graphic that you can easily do as you know.

Re: Dual Y gantry CNC router slowly getting out of square
I've even seen CAT6 bulk wire where each twisted pair was foil wrapped then all four pairs wrapped again with a drain wire. You can even buy the stuff at Home Depot. But I just read back a little and you are using the Teknic cables and these are Clearpath motors. I was suggesting CAT5 or 6 for stand...

Re: Dual Y gantry CNC router slowly getting out of square
Go buy a shielded CAT5 cable and do the same thing. Ground the shield at the common ground point in your cabinet. You do have a single ground point inside the cabinet, yes? Shielded wire is recommended and best practice for all signal wiring on the machine. Shawn, can you explain how you grounded t...

Re: Missing Steps in circular interpolation
Until you correct all the deficiencies in the system this will continue to happen. Just fixing one wont do it. The PC is probably the most important for now. Get a proper PC and report back, and I don't mean a laptop.

Re: Dual Y gantry CNC router slowly getting out of square
Also, Teknic's own cables aren't shielded? Are we just talking about inside the cabinet here? I edited my comment, shielded wire should be used everywhere on the machine. Signal wires, limit switch wiring, encoder wiring, VFD wiring. Noise in a system can have you chasing your tail for days, why no...

Re: Missing Steps in circular interpolation
I have received my breakout board and will rewire the drives. Another question, Should I bring back a separate COM from each drive back the break out or just jumper the COM from drive to drive and bring back one wire. It is bad practice to "daisy chain" any connection for step and directi...
