Re: Grove and cut off tool question
Looking at the two grooving tools mounted on the front and rear tool posts in the second photo, I don't see how the rear one can be on center. It appears the same amount of tool height adjuster screw threads are visible on the two tool holders. I don't see how that is possible. With, I'm guessing, ...

Re: Grove and cut off tool question
As a test, I would try your insert tooling set up for the bottom tool post in the top tool post and run the spindle backwards. If that cuts fine, that will rule out any tool post or squareness problems leaving only height problems on the top tool post remaining. For the blade type toolholders, the ...

Grove and cut off tool question
Hey All, This question is out of the realm of Acorn control but is CNC machining related so I figure it cant hurt to ask since there are so many seasoned machinists in the group. If your not familiar with my machine its a Shirlene chucker lathe with Acorn control. And as you can see I have a QC tool...

Re: New Rebuild on Sherline Chucker Lathe & New build on 5400 mill
Why did you think it was acceptable to ignore the rest of the equation? You successfully calculated watts which is volts x amps. Now divide by 745.6998 watts/HP to get an approximation if you want to ignore power factor and efficiency. LOL right   I actually was writing this at work, got ...

Re: New Rebuild on Sherline Chucker Lathe & New build on 5400 mill
It is. On the motor and speed control tab: "Output horsepower: .06 KW (60 W) at 10 oz. in. / 6100 rpm" You say that but what is the formula? How does the above tell me the HP? That's why I asked. Im looking it up and it says HP for motor = volts X amps and I come up with 157.5? Using 90V ...

Re: New Rebuild on Sherline Chucker Lathe & New build on 5400 mill
So update on this, just ordered a replacement for the KBIC which is a KBIC240D that designates its dual voltage. They were cool and will pay to ship it back which they did not have to do because it was their dealer rep who gave me the wrong link. I actually wish I would have known about that before ...

Re: New Rebuild on Sherline Chucker Lathe & New build on 5400 mill
Marty wanted to ask you about the horse power resistor. Before I purchased this new KBIC board I looked up the spindle motor and found it was a 1/2 HP motor, at least that's what I thought. But now when looking it up can not find that spec in the info on Sherline's site. When I got the new KBIC boar...

Right makes sense, keep fingers crossed. Gunna take the motor to work see if my bud Dillan can school me on resistance testing.martyscncgarage wrote: ↑Sun Aug 28, 2022 9:47 pm For all you know, the KBIC-240 may not even power up. Not enough AC line voltage

Re: New Rebuild on Sherline Chucker Lathe & New build on 5400 mill
I have no idea what that drive will do on the incorrect voltage. I do know when connected to 240VAC, it WILL put out up to 180vdc which will surely burn up the spindle motor because if memory serves, the motor terminal voltage is about 75vdc (confirm with Sherline) I believe the drive you want with...
