Re: Spindle control

I got it working! Switching to 18 gauge wire was the key.....evidently voltage drop on smaller wires is significant for the 0-10vdc out on the acorn board. I have to play around with the trim pots on the 240d or 125r a bit to coordinate the settings with actual rpm, but that should be easy. One thin...

Re: Spindle control

Check your KBSI-240D's J1 input selector switch (or jumper on some models) & make sure it's set to voltage & not current. You'll get wacky speeds if it's set wrong. You should be able to get your speeds adjusted pretty close using the KBSI's on-board multi-turn trim pots for low & high....

Re: Spindle control

Well, I got everything wired up today per Dickeybird's schematic with the 125R and 240D, and it works great, kinda. I have the 125R and 240D in a separate metal box that has 110V activated via contactor triggered by the main control box AC. I replaced the control box on the Grizzly with a smaller pl...

Re: Spindle control

Never mind, uncle Google says it's the E-stop function. So yes, the spindle stops if you whack the E-Stop button. The KB stuff is all enabled by the Acorn. E-Stop the Acorn & the spindle stops. I think the 125R's braking resistor works as it's slowing down. I'm guessing about that function sinc...

Re: Spindle control

Did you see Franco's video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIQZ8dCUcwg Yes, but I would not want to do it that way. Letting grounds float is not a good idea. I plan to use the KB 125R for the motor control, KBIC 240D for opto isolation, and wire as galylon and dickeybird have done. I will wire gro...

Re: Spindle control

One other question: How did you guys handle the grounds between the 125R, 250D, your acorn board, and the lathe ground - which ones are tied and which are not? I'm just trying to avoid burning something up! :) BTW, if I wire the spindle to be controlled by acorn like this, can I assume that the EPO ...

Re: Spindle control

i wanted reverse on my mini lathe so i could do tapping. i make a lot of parts that require it. as for the speed readout you will have one on the cnc12 screen so you wont need a second one unless you're not using an encoder. That's a good point....thanks. I've got the 125R and 240D plus resistors o...

Re: Spindle control

Looking at the Grizz's wiring diagram for the G0765 it uses a clone of a KB controller. The P1, P2 & P3 terminals on its speed control board should connect & work the same as a KB. I'm not sure about the other things you mentioned but it looks like they should work as well. Let us know how ...

Re: Spindle control

Hello all, I've been following the various threads for spindle control on mini lathes using Acorn control, and am wondering if it is possible to simply use an isolation board like the KBSI-240D to control the stock motor speed control in my G0765, rather than go the route of replacing the motor cont...
