Re: Clearpath plus or minus gearbox?
I am retrofitting a 2006 Shopbot Buddy machine with Clearpath motors and an acorn board. The machine currently has 326 OZ motors driving a 3.6 to 1 planetary gear box. I can get a Clearpath servo that has more torque and better resolution than the current stepper WITH the planetary drive attached. ...

Re: question on steppers and closed loop steppers
Apparently the drives are doing much more than just monitoring the position. Actually not. Just like the controller, closed loop stepper drives simply compare the commanded number of steps given, apply a multiplier that would relate to a number of encoder counts, and based on parameters set in the ...

Re: Random motion control
Johnny... If the tool is veering off the desired path is it losing position or does it come back to the desired path? And, am I correct in hearing that this shows up in the graphing? It would be difficult to believe that if it shows up on the graphing screen that it is anywhere but in the code produ...

Re: Clearpath Estop/Enable Circuit
Daniel... You are correct, the ClearPath ENA will enable the motor, but will not reset a fault, you must power cycle for that. Some Teknic products do, some don't. And I agree, the ENA outputs don't work as I would have guess before testing. If you wish to have control over the enable circuit, use a...

Re: E-stopping and VFD's
TRM... I'm with you. You don't have to cut the 0-10v connection, the relay that provides the spindle forward will go inactive when an ESTOP event occurs. This will allow the full decel abilities of the drive to stop the spindle. That's my preference. Unfortunately industrial safety standards want th...

Re: Need proximity switches
Bobby... The ones I use are listed here: https://www.automationdirect.com/adc/shopping/catalog/sensors_-z-_encoders/magnetic_proximity_sensors/8mm_round_industrial_automation You will need NPN versions. You can see that the NO versions outnumber the NC by about 10:1 and they are much pricier in NPN ...

Mike...
Thanks for the kind words. Don't know if you've seen it, but I've used the 10:1 SureGear on a rotary axis and it worked very well.

Re: Recommendations on budget priced tool height setter?
Mike... I haven't had a chance to put them on the mill and test with an indicator. If I was looking for something sub "a couple thousandths" I would get one of the more expensive units. Here is a link that shows them and current pricing. I obviously bought too early. They probably wi...

Boot into the bios settings and look in the power section and see if there is a "Wake on USB" setting
