Re: Part holding question

Instead of the spray foam, maybe try Cerrobend, a low temp metal, to create a more sturdy negative to hold the piece. The 158°F melting point shouldn't damage the wood, but note that I've never used it in this application, so your testing would need to be thorough: http://www.csalloys.com/products-c...

Re: 2-axis Sharp knee mill revival

Haven’t posted in a while, but do have a few updates. X & Y are all set up and working correctly. This was not quite as simple as it could have been, since my X-axis motor was missing a mounting plate. To remedy, I laser cut a hole template, marked hole centers on a square plate of 6061… IMG_117...

Re: 2-axis Sharp knee mill revival

Made a bit more progress on the machine this weekend, starting with the control box. Since I’m reusing the original, fairly small cabinet, I’m utilizing not just the back, but also the side panels. Most of the electronics will be on the main back panel, while the side panels will be used for the rat...

Re: 2-axis Sharp knee mill revival

Yes, the plan is one switch and two trippers. I don't actually have the software up and running yet, but the machine is almost fully wired now. I have X & Y switches wired in series so that only one input is used on the Acorn board. I thought that CNC12 would be able to figure out which end was ...

Re: 2-axis Sharp knee mill revival

Made a little progress this past weekend. Did some research on my style of plunger limit switch and decided to cut a 30 degree angle in my stop cams. 30_cam.jpeg I cut out two small 30-60-90 triangles on my laser cutter and used them as a guide for a quick rough cut using my table saw sled. Re: 2-axis Sharp knee mill revival

I’ll be bolting my limit switch cam stops to my mill base this weekend. I struggled with a single hole last weekend and have four to do now where more precision in placement is required.

Any tips out there for drilling into a cast iron mill base?

Quick question: Attaching wire duct to control panels

Attaching wire duct to control panels: How do you prefer to do it? Rivets? If so, plastic or metal? Might be less fiddly than screws (which I'd also have to go and buy, since I don't have anything suitable on hand). Thanks in advance for suggestions!

Re: 2-axis Sharp knee mill revival

Didn’t get any suggestions on the y-axis limit switch placement, so I just dove in blindly this weekend. I decided to put the switch on the moving part of the table and the stops on the base. The idea is to hang a L-bracket on the table base and bolt a roller plunger switch to the bottom of it. The ...

Re: 2-axis Sharp knee mill revival

Limit switches: I could use some advice. I just installed a switch for the X-axis, utilizing tapped holes that seem to be pretty standard on most knee mills. The Y-axis is a completely different story. Anyone care to share pics of their Y-axis limit switch setup? I don't look forward to drilling and...
