Re: What buttons should be on the control panel?

Thanks for your suggestions. The machine has a direct drive spindle. I did modify the mist coolant button for cooling air though.

What about some buttons for commonly used screens? Ate there screens you would often go back and forth between?

What buttons should be on the control panel?

I am ordering a custom control panel button overlay and am after ideas as to what buttons are most useful to put on it. I went and played with the machine and wrote down everything I could think of. I then made a VCP panel to look like the custom panel (see attached). It turns out that there are ple...

Re: Mazak Oak retrofit - please help advise on parts needed

Yes, ordered the drives and matching cables from DMM. I have never heard of a line reactor. I assume you mean a line filter? I have not ordereded any electrical cabinet parts yet. Need to sort power supplies and so forth too. Been busy trying to keep the machine running as is. it has developped a fa...

Re: Mazak Oak retrofit - please help advise on parts needed

Oak, control button panel, wireless MPG, software upgrade, ATC option and cables are all ordered and paid for. Three DYN4 and encoder adapters are ordered and paid for. Spindle drive is still a work in progress but its all happening! Todays job is to work out what buttons I want on the control panel...

Re: Mazak Oak retrofit - please help advise on parts needed

Cool, thanks, I will look into that drive. I have the local ABB rep looking to see what he can come up with but I expect they will offer something crazy expensive and then have proprietary software you have to buy to configure it. That's usually how they roll! From my understanding from what the Cen...

Re: Mazak Oak retrofit - please help advise on parts needed

Hi Marty, I have had the spindle servo cover off several times. It takes two people to get it off and not often someone here to help me. I don't think I need to go in there again for a while I hope. All the cabling is fitted and running to the control cabinet! The motor looks identical to the other ...

Re: Mazak Oak retrofit - please help advise on parts needed

So, looks like the DYN4 might be out for spindle driving. Seems maximum RPM is 5000. The machine can currently do 6000 RPM, I was hoping to even squeeze a little more out of it like 6500. So I guess I am back looking at trying to find a vector VFD that supports AC servo motors. Can someone please co...

Re: Mazak Oak retrofit - please help advise on parts needed

Hi Marty, I have been watching your youtube videos, great stuff, I have learnt a lot! I tried getting to the name plate on the spindle but it would have meant a big disassembly job. I could see it with a borescope, but it was too dirty to read! I got the part number of the spindle motor (MSM152B2A) ...

Re: Mazak Oak retrofit - please help advise on parts needed

Thanks everyone for your advice. I decided today that I would try run the machine under a bit of load and take some big cuts and so forth. I wanted to get a feel for what the mechanics of the machine are actually capable of. Before investing in the upgrade I wanted to know that I had a good starting...

Re: Mazak Oak retrofit - please help advise on parts needed

Hi Maty, Thanks for your reply. To answer some of your questions: What is your anticipated budget? What do you think the machine would be worth after its retrofitted? - I bought the machine for scrap value as it apparently had broken electronics. Turned out to be OK and it is fully functional. It ju...
