Re: Shopbot PRT control box build - hold my beer
And bust out the aluminum sheet and tig welder that's what I did That picture you shared was my inspiration for pulling the old Miller Syncrowave out of storage. And I have a TON of alum extrusion laying around. Keep in mind that spending $125-150 for a new driver and $91 for new motors puts you pr...

Marty replies: "Power supply size is dependent on your stepper motors. You are buying good stepper drives. They throttle back the current when the machine is idle helping to keep the motors cool. I would likely buy a power supply that is sized correctly to the motors. Do you know the model numb...

Shopbot PRT control box build - hold my beer
Bringing over here from another thread. After much reading here, I've decided to attempt building an Acorn based controller for my 2004 PRT 4896. My plan so far: The plan: I think instead of cannibalizing my existing 4G control box, I'm just going to build a new one. That way if it works I can eithe...

Re: Shopbot gets new life! Acorn performs magnificent.
Done and done. Hold my beer... I've decided to forge ahead and build one myself. My apologies to Gary for the head fake as I've inquired with him about his upgrades a couple times over the last years. The fact is, my machine is not a production machine nor do I depend on it for much more than a thea...

Re: Shopbot gets new life! Acorn performs magnificent.
Thinking about either buying one of Gary's upgrades, or building one myself. I have an old PRT with a 4G upgrade. Looking at the Acorn wiring diagram for the Gecko 203V's I see the need for a "220 OHM Pull Up resistor". Is that only necessary when you don't go the route of the DB25 connect...

Re: Custom Acorn Controller
following up on a conversation started elsewhere.
for my 2004 PRT will this upgrade also require new stepper motors or gearboxes to achieve my stated goals? (better resolution and smoother cuts)
