Re: I just found out my servo drivers are analog +10/-10 v What are my options?

I do not think I would keep the DC brush motors on that machine. I would stick with a new closed loop drive/motor solution. What is the spindle motor drive? Glentek? Can you post a link to the manual? All 4 drivers are Glenteks Axis manuals: https://www.glentek.com/download/sma8110-sma8210-sma8310-...

Re: I just found out my servo drivers are analog +10/-10 v What are my options?

Would really like to see pictures of your control cabinet, labels on your drives and motors, what kind of spindle drive if any do you have? And a picture of the overall machine and its condition. History of the machine? Did you own it working and the control suddenly died or did you buy the machine...

I just found out my servo drivers are analog +10/-10 v What are my options?

I had a pretty big hit to my wallet today I think, I'm doing a retrofit on a mill planning on using the existing servo motors and servo amp controllers (made by Glentek) and I just found out they are analog input whereas I need a step and direction input to run off Acorn. Do components that will ada...

Re: Is an axis shunt the same as an emergency stop circuit?

Now that you mention bridge rectifiers I think there are 2 of them heat pasted to the black aluminum plate. I'll see if I can't find some numbers off of them to lookup. The machine Originally came with a transformer that allowed either 110v or 220v to be used. I don't see any reason I need to run th...

Is an axis shunt the same as an emergency stop circuit?

I started dissecting my 90's model mill to find out what components I can use yet and came across something I hope isn't an issue. My old CNC motherboard has a 5 pinout cable labeled 'axis shunt' leading to the main servo axis and spindle motor power supply. Could this be the emergency stop cutout o...

How do you guys hold your touch probes?

The price increase made me do it  . I just bought a kp3 touch probe. How do you guys hold your probes? I was planning on just using a 1/2" weldon style end mill holder but now I'm thinking the set screw would mess up the shank. Should I get a dedicated ER collet holder for it or is the...

Re: I have a brand new laptop with only acorn cnc installed on it, still won't connect to my bench test?

Oh yes, this computer I'm using is deffintly way overkill for the minimum specs needed. I guess I'll cross that road when something shuts down in the middle of an operation, remembering you told me so will probably tell me right away to just get a different computer lol. This is my first cnc and my ...

Re: I have a brand new laptop with only acorn cnc installed on it, still won't connect to my bench test?

Oh man, this is going to sound really dumb but I started 'jiggleing' the rj45 connector plugged into my computer and it registered it as plugged in... I reinstalled the acorn software just now and it seems to work. Looks like I need to buy a better rj45 cable. My laptop was a freebie from a scholars...

Re: I have a brand new laptop with only acorn cnc installed on it, still won't connect to my bench test?

Thank you. I've been messing around with my IP settings, no luck so far. I think I've changed my IP to 10.198.41.1 however when I ping it from command prompt it comes back with 'request timed out' same for when I ping 10.198.41.2 (the acorn board ip from what I read) My ethernet is enabled, however ...

The only thing different in my install vs the installs I have watched in centroids how to section is this screen. The network adapter screen. So far I have selected both options with seemingly the same results between my fresh installs of Windows 10.
