C Axis milling with the Acorn

I am exploring building a custom machine that will have a layout most similar to a lathe, but it’s primary purpose will be milling using a C axis. It would be a 3 axis machine with x,z, and C axis. I have seen that some systems that allow for x, y movements to be converted into x, c movements by the...

Re: Looking for a decent switch based tool length sensor

Thanks so much for all of your detailed replies! I ordered the one from ebay several people suggested. Thanks!

Looking for a decent switch based tool length sensor

I am looking for a decent tool length sensor that I can mount permanently to the machine to easily touch off tools. I have a spindle with ceramic bearings, and I have heard that this can cause a poor electrical connection for sensors based on conductive tooling. Since I'd like to touch off periodica...

Re: back to basics

Do you have a +24v jumper going to the +24v terminal near the inputs? Is that red wire going to 24IN or input 8? I’d suggest pulling up the schematic and double checking that portion of the diagram. Also, I see an exposed wire hanging right over your acorn. That is a big risk, weather it is 24v or c...

Re: New Centroid Teknic Clearpath officially supported configurations

1. Have you tested at 400khz? I am using that because of a 4th rotary axis setup that has a 15:1 gear reduction, and wanted to maximize steps/rev for that setup. I don't follow. If you wanted to resolve something like 0.01 degrees (which I doubt you'd ever need) with a 15:1 ratio, you'd only need 3...

Re: New Centroid Teknic Clearpath officially supported configurations

- the max current rating is for all the chip channels combined, the clearpath to Acorn is not using all of them so no risk at exceeding current ratings. - 1/2 watt 100 ohm at 5 volts runs 'cool', 1/4 watt will run hot (which is ok, just easy to go to 1/2 watt and not have it be hot) - the 5 volt 10...

Re: New Centroid Teknic Clearpath officially supported configurations

It seems to me that a 100 ohm resistor on a 5v system would have the acorn outputs sinking a current 58 mA. This is above the maximum stated in the Acorn user manual. Is this correct?
