Re: 2007 Shopbot PRS-S 4896 Upgrade Recommendations
The options are really wide open when considering the motors and drivers. Since the acorn outputs step and direction signals any device that takes those in can be used. Anything from dirt cheap amazon/ebay stepper kits to clearpath or DMM servos to other strange things. If you are happy with the spe...

Re: Clearpath SDSK-3421S-RLS Wizard Settings
I would also say that you will need to make sure the motor steps match in the acorn wizard and in the clearpath app. The input step resolution can be higher on the regular 800/rev, the motor just will take 4 step signals for every unit of motion it is able to command. Won't be an issue at all, just ...

Re: Is a stepper driver necessary?
yes, a stepper driver is required if working with steppers. The acorn board can not drive the actual motor, only gives data level controls for step, direction, and enable. Need to have some sort of drive between the board and the motor.

Re: Spindle Motor Recommendations
Thank you both for so much data! I appreciate it! The bearings I got are all rated between 12k-18k, and P4 precision I am by no means tied to a servo on the spindle, just a route I was checking out. I just want it to be better and work, which I think means going the route of least resistance: VFD wi...

Re: Spindle Motor Recommendations
I was falling asleep last night my mind wandering on this upgrade. I knew I had to be missing something. I was. I don't think there is enough room in the top of the head to allow a large enough pulley to get the RPMs I want from the servo motor. Given that I would like 10k rpm and that motor only sp...

Re: Spindle Motor Recommendations
I have watched his videos and love the idea of that larger spindle. a) quite expensive, b) I would have to get all new tooling holders. Not a huge deal, but certainly not ideal. and c) I like the idea of being able to belt the motor up or down depending on if I am doing aluminum or steel. I would lo...
