Re: "Z compensation" on 4x8 foot CNC router

I glue the top spoilboard down. That won't help with the machine construction, but it sounds like a lot of your issue is the loose spoilboard. I use wood glue and a paint roller to apply. I put it on the pads of the grid with a light coat, being careful not to get glue running into the grooves. Then...

Re: question on hardware pairing and auto home/squaring

Auto squaring with hard wired slaved axis would be possible with relays (or switches) used to turn off one motor's signals at a time. You would have to make a custom macro to turn off one motor, home that axis, then turn off the other motor, home and adjust square on that motor. Then with both relay...

Re: Input to jog axis

You can do keyboard jogging easily with the arrow keys and page up/dn. It can be set to come on all the time in the wizard. I'm sure there are other ways around it but that is easy and built in. A programmable keypad should accomplish the same thing, but I have not tried one.

Re: Unable to Set Spindle Speed via G-Code

I normally unplug the spindle speed from acorn. On the 0-10v leads going to the vfd, use a 9 volt batter to send 9v dc to the vfd speed input. See if it works as is should without acorn. You should get 90 percent of max speed.

Re: Software Feature Request: spindle speed adjustment

I offset it with slowing the feed rate and one affects the other with spindle speed. I do agree having a slider, or way to go slower would be nice.

Re: Your parts recommendations for retrofit

If I was changing motors and drives, it opens the door for at least getting steppers with encoders. Stepperonline makes some that I would try. I would run the motors you have at the amps they were running at before.

Re: Virtual Control Panel Fault After Tool Path

If you have the little relay board that comes with acorn actually applying the voltage to the router, that is probably the issue. I use those to run low power outputs, but not heavier loads.

Re: Your parts recommendations for retrofit

The motors you have are good. The drives will function, but not as smooth as putting leadshine in there. DM860E drives work well and are just over $50 each at automation driect. Power supply can be good or not for powering the drives. I'm on my third MC retro now and redoing the spoilboard now. I've...
