Re: setting Hitachi SJ200 / WJ200 VFD Dynamic braking parameters

Those appear to be the correct parameters. I am not familiar with he Hitachi drives. Are you sure you have a built-in braking transistor? Can you post your drive model number? What values do you have in those parameters? Can you post all your parameters? Make sure that DC braking is disabled. How f...

Re: setting Hitachi SJ200 / WJ200 VFD Dynamic braking parameters

Wow! Slip away for a little weekend of 4-wheeling and I get an avalanche of great advise. :) First, THANK YOU to Marc for a great explanation of what is going on inside the "black box". That helps me a lot to use my intuition in deciding what parameters may need adjustment. From the array ...

setting Hitachi SJ200 / WJ200 VFD Dynamic braking parameters

Has anyone set up a Hitachi inverter for dynamic braking using an external braking resistor on a typical Bridgeport style spindle motor? I've had my VFD successfully running the spindle for about a year now, but I have gotten E-stop fault trips when programming spindle speed changes that are signifi...

Hitachi SJ200 braking resistor wiring

Guys, Hoping someone can clear up a bit of confusion. I have a Hitachi SJ200 VFD that I am using to run a SWI DPM bed mill spindle. I'm getting tired of overcurrent fault trips when decelerating the spindle, so I'm adding a braking resistor. If I understand the manual correctly, the correct terminal...

Re: Poor man's rigid tapping?

I don't yet have a glass scale for the quill. That is in the plans. When I do get one and install it, I intended to "sum" the quill axis (W axis) with the Ram (Z axis). The original ProtoTrak control did this. Years ago, when I first started this retrofit, I inquired if that was possible a...

Re: Poor man's rigid tapping?

You would need to make it a CNC macro, called with G65. You cannot make it automatically happen through G84. Therefore you would need to customize your postprocessor, in whatever CAD/CAM system you are using, to write out an appropriate G65 call. Other than that, yes, you should be able to do what ...

Re: Poor man's rigid tapping?

But that's the point, Mike. Centroid has control over positioning and spindle speed/direction. I ran a Bridgeport E-Z Trak 2 axis CNC knee mill that did NOT have spindle or Z axis control (only Z axis DRO on the quill). We would run a conversational program for a hole pattern or bolt circle, once to...

Re: Poor man's rigid tapping?

Which is why letting the CNC's cat-like reflexes hit reverse lightning quick and repeatably is an idea worth pondering.

Re: Poor man's rigid tapping?

The entire quill is a floating holder in my scenario. I am not trying to slave an axis drive motion to spindle rotation. The W axis (quill) is not powered. It is simply a DRO. All I really want the control to do is watch the depth that the tap is pulling the quill to, then reverse the spindle at the...
