Re: Mazak Impulse - Oak retrofit build log

Time for another update. I have the motor faults finally sorted!!! It turns out that the DMM supplied motors cannot reach high RPM at the 200V I have to work with. That was a bit of a kick in the guts given how clear I was before purchasing about my target RPM and voltage I have! Anyways, I can reli...

Re: Movement banging on direction change

According to his report, it is running in position mode (P256 = 2, all PID gains zero). According to his report, encoder counts/rev is 30000. Since acceleration and deceleration distance allowances are computed in advance, based on the programmed feedrate, it is not surprising there is more "b...

Re: Movement banging on direction change

I need to know 1)Your Drives use +/-10V velocity Mode or Pulse Train? 2)What is the no of pulses /rev of Motor? DYN4 drives with DMM 11A 1kW motors. Oak is running in precision mode. 30000 steps per revolution. I had to reduce it from 32768 as the Oak cant reach 2400 RPM at 32768. But as it turned ...

Re: Smoothing - Do you use it?

I don't use it. As Polaraligned stated, it's a precision mill, why un-precise it? I was thinking the same thing. What is the point. But it does make a massive difference maintaining a constant feedrate for roughing operations. It can be turned on and off in g code. But that is not something I can d...

Re: JUMPY CHOPPY MACHINING

Watch the feedrate number. If it is jumping around a lot then you have sudden acceleration/deceleration.

I am having similar issues too in this post viewtopic.php?f=64&t=6181&p=53693#p53693.

Re: Smoothing - Do you use it?

For any information on smoothing, I am still keen to hear about if and when it is used.

But, for info on my banging and specific control issues, I have posted it here viewtopic.php?f=64&t=6181&p=53693#p53693

Re: Smoothing - Do you use it?

I have found that when I override the feed rate to greater than 100%, my Centroid cuts like crap and every direction change is banging like all hell. This seems to be a control problem as I can run the same code with a higher feed rate in the program (not overridden) and the machine runs fine. I us...

Re: Movement banging on direction change

Today I gathered up some more information, reports, gcode file etc. I also think I found the limit of the Centroid controller! So, I am doing this testing on a program for a test block. The g code is generated by Fusion 360. The initial program I ran yesterday had tolerance set to 0.1 and smoothing ...

Smoothing - Do you use it?

At the moment I am finding my machine bangs on every direction change even from one small line to the next. This is obviously due to every change in direction causing an acceleration/deceleration of one axis or another. Feedrate jerks around as direction changes abruptly. Smoothing stops this and ke...

Movement banging on direction change

I have been battling away for months and months now trying to get good motion control on this machine of mine and I just cant get there. If I want it fast it jerks and bangs. If I slow it down, well, its slow! I have been using DYN4 drives which I think are a big part of my problem. They were failin...
