Re: Relearning lathe tool measurement
... set up center as a compensation point, but you can't touch it with a probe, so it will be 1/2 width of the grooving tool off in Z.
Just make sure the setup in CAM is the same as your tool setup on the lathe.

Re: 3 wire probe connections?
I replaced this one on my lathe with the new KP1, because the repeatability is way better.
But this Chinese probe is better than most other very cheap ones.

Re: Probe Arm for lathe
So now I got my solid carbide square for the TTO and just made the construction to mount it on the probe...
The square is a 3 buck replacement part for turning tool holders
If this works, easy peasy to measure lathe tools in all four (six) directions with high precision

Re: Probe Arm for lathe
The Probe Arm is ready.
Now I have to make a square tip for the Probe.
Parts are milled with blue tape/CA mounting, threads are milled.
A big advantage of a probe arm is that you can measure tools with the workpiece clamped, or with a collet chuck, no need to change the collet for measuring.

Re: OAK lathe setup to use a tool touch off probe?
Well, I wired it up on AUX Probe 772 and it seems to work.
I got a deal on an old Renishaw HPA probe arm and installed it. I had to make a bracket that tied into the headstock to make it stiff enough and it appears to be adequate. The bonus is no axis movement is allowed with the probe arm removed ...
