Re: Acorn Carousel Tool Changer

No problem.
I started with a 23 frame motor but with the carousel loaded with tools it was on the edge of loosing steps.
I upgrade to a 34 frame closed loop stepper with a 3:1 reduction & haven't had a problem since.
If you want some more info on my setup you can see it here;

Re: Acorn Carousel Tool Changer

I used the reduction ratio to increase torque of the stepper. This reduced the jerk in start stop motion.
As you can imagine the moment of inertia of a full carousel is significant. I have since upgraded to a larger frame stepper.
I would imagine that with a DMM servo you will need to step down ...

Re: Ether 1616 controlled Stepper

I used a generic leadshine style closed loop stepper for the carousel & a Velocio ACE PLC to generate the pulses for the stepper.
The PLC file is on page 2 of this thread & the M6 macro on page 3.
If you break down the steps required a toolchanger is not too difficult.

Michael

Re: Umbrella ATC Guidance

I have done an ATC both ways, using the A Axis & stepper is by far the easiest.
Converted to Ether1616 control to allow use of A-Axis for future use. Both setups listed below with macros attached.

Re: cnc barrel rifling machine

Could this be done with the spindle indexed with an encoder & cut in a similar fashion to a single point internal thread?
Just a matter of generating G code for the rifling pitch.

Re: Ether 1616 controlled Stepper

Ok a quick update as this social isolating has allowed me to get back into the shed.
Have worked out the logic to control carousel through the Ether1616.
Using a cheap PLC (Velocio) to interface to E1616 with 4 bit logic for positioning with two other bits to activate move & signal move complete ...

Re: Spindle Fan M Code

Thanks CNCNW,
Found that the m94 /31, m95 /31 will turn cooling fan on & off when assigned in wizard.
Possibly include a run on timer and/or a thermo switch as Marty suggests.

Michael

Spindle Fan M Code

As the title say's, is there a standard spindle cooling fan M Code.
I have assigned the fan to an Output (output 1 currently, also assigned in the wizard) & would like to turn the fan on or off with a command.
Also is there a way to have the fan run time controlled by Acorn PLC is is it best done ...

Re: Z axis accumulating negative error

Slodat,
I had the exact same issues as you & ended up running via the DB25 port with differential drivers. I found this this to be most repeatable.
I am also currently testing CNC4PC C86 board with some success but still early at this time, however it needs 12v supply. Even though its supposedly ...

Re: Control Panel

I don't think there is really such a thing as too big.
To get decent cable control & ventilation space around your drives you will use all of it.
Potentially you could have up to 6 drives in the cabinet with 4 axis, spindle & toolchanger.
The extra depth of the one you listed would be handy to ...
