Re: Not my first 3D carving...

Sword, I tried the gadget in Aspire that I believe originated by Paul. I could not get it to work. There are many many point date file types. If there is an easier way I would love to know. I see LOTS of posts like - It "SHOULD" work thisa way, but I have not seen any posts that DETAIL an ...

Re: Not my first 3D carving...

Keith,

Thank you for that information.

I don't have Rhino - maybe some day.

I don't have Centroid -- YET --- I am thinking January - February.
I currently have 2-3 customer jobs I need to finish with Mach3.
I don't want to shut down my machine until I clear it of customer jobs.

Re: digitizing problems

Tom, Yes 100% I can. In Aspire I can import 3D .stl and modify it to my hearts content. I don't know a lot about what happens in the C+ programming behind the screen, but the STL gets converted to an editable model. I have done a fair amount of STL imports into Aspire. Purely STL - yes I know it's a...

Re: digitizing problems

Shred, I am with you on this. I know what you are trying to do. I am trying to do the same thing. It sounds a LOT easier than it is in actuality. I am 95% sure it CAN be done - but the huge question is HOW. Some folks will tell you that you can probe the surface - and you can. You end up with point ...

Re: Not my first 3D carving...

I don't use Aspire, but a quick Google search turns up this: https://gadgets.vectric.com/V11/regular_grid_importer It should be relatively easy using search and replace in a text editor to convert the Centroid .DIG files into the format the gadget requires. Been there already. The file formats that...

Re: Not my first 3D carving...

T It is different from point cloud date in more than that it has a G1 in front of every line. Each coordinate X, Y, and Z is also in there. Pure point cloud data is ONLY the numbers - no G1 or G0 or X, Y, or Z. Yes I could strip out the coordinates, I do know how to do that. It's ok either way. I st...

Re: Not my first 3D carving...

tblough

Thank you.

That file is all G-Code, not really what I was expecting as point cloud data, which is a comma delaminated format.

BUT - I think I need to maybe reevaluate my expectations. Maybe it is easier to get a surface with that DIG file.
