Re: Gecko 214 Wiring Diagram To Acorn

@Mike I generally agree with what you said. Except... If my boss asked me to work on this problem, with the information I have collected thus far, I would not commit to have a solution in five minutes. I would say: "Give me five minutes to scope it, and I will tell you more. Something like this...

Re: STEPPERONLINE CL57T stepper drivers, fault code 7, no movement. <incorrectly wired from stepperonline>

Indeed, it will work if you set the polarity correctly. I was just observing that: 1. Pedantically speaking, the doc is semantically misleading calling the input ENABLE, given the fact that when activated it will disable the drive. 2. The Acorn default configuration will result in an error reported ...

Re: Gecko 214 Wiring Diagram To Acorn

@tuffduck The kind of a problem you have really requires EE expertise to address. An EE would likely use a scope as one of the tools to diagnose the problem, but the scope would be just that -- one of the tools. A scope in hands of someone that has no experience using it is of very little use. Too m...

Re: STEPPERONLINE CL57T stepper drivers, fault code 7, no movement.

Don't know if this is your problem, but... Make sure the ENA input on the CL57T is disconnected. Many stepper controllers including this one keep calling the input ENABLE even though it actually disables the motion in its active state. If you connect the [default configuration] Acorn ENABLE output t...

Re: Gecko 214 Wiring Diagram To Acorn

@tuffduck The building components for these machines have two characteristics in common: 1) they are designed to map onto a couple common and robust (read noise immune) configurations, and 2) they are often very poorly documented. Consequently, with a bit of luck, one can set up a working system jus...

Re: Does Centroid have S curves or jerk control in motion planning?

The spikes in the plot are due to the low steps per revolution setting. The spikes are there because the beagle motion controller generated them. It may be that the motion controller introduces such noise only for lower resolutions microstepping (if you want to call 1000ppr "low resolution&quo...

@rk9268vc Nema34 with a 100:1 reduction is approximately equivalent to the 1960's Pontiac GTO engine. So yeah that can do some damage. 8-)

Re: Does Centroid have S curves or jerk control in motion planning?

@cncninja The parameter 228 didn't make any difference in my test. Its default setting in my software (CNC12 Acorn Mill v4.64) is 0 (S-curve off), which is what it was when I took the measurement you saw. It clearly does not control the S-curve I saw. But to see what would happen, I set it to 1 rest...

Re: Does Centroid have S curves or jerk control in motion planning?

This subject piqued my interest, mostly because I have no experience with, and would love to learn more about control specific to CNC machining. So I hooked up my signal analyzer (to the Acorn X axis) to examine the velocity profile. Indeed there is an S-curve. Very interestingly (at least to me) it...

Re: z axis moves when spindle turned on

I know it's janky wiring, but it's quite far away from any signal wires You don't know if the interference is through the air or conductive via your wires. Please note that the noise is as likely to be conductive (on your wiring), as it could be electromagnetic (in the air). No shielding will help ...
