Re: New Build Steel Frame Router
I changed my steps/rev to 4000, and noticed a strange resonance in my Y axis when jogging at certain speeds with the MPG. Seems to be worst at a speed of 175IPM I can feel and hear loud vibrations in the Y axis fixed and floating ends, and at the ball nut connection to the Gantry. Quite jarring. If ...

Re: New Build Steel Frame Router
Thanks guys for all the great input. I am hoping to find some time this weekend to make some adjustments as suggested, notably 4,000 steps/rev, and overall turns ratio. I will report back.

Re: New Build Steel Frame Router
Thanks Gary for the explanation.
Slower moves will also accelerate slower. I have to think about why that's a benefit.
I guess that is different to most other hobby CNC controllers which use units/s^2.

Re: New Build Steel Frame Router
I have not been able to find any documentation on the acceleration setting. Usually acceleration has units of m/s^2 or ft/s^2. In Acorn the unit is in Seconds, so I am guessing that's the time to accelerate to full speed? (Intuitive) Internally there must be a conversion to acceleration m/s^2. If we ...

Re: New Build Steel Frame Router
in the photo it looks like the bore is moving +X and - Y in all cases , is this true?
I am not sure I understand the question.
For the climb cuts the long axis is just like the drawing. With a conventional cut the result is mirrored.

Re: New Build Steel Frame Router
Both Y axis use the same pulse and direction signal wire from the Acorn Board. I am not using Auto-square.
I have extra ball nuts so I can try a double nut setup, but first I need to make sure where the backlash is coming from. It may also be coming from the fixed bearing block. I swapped the ...

Re: New Build Steel Frame Router
The couplers are made in China, as are most of the drive train parts. They are good quality 40mm diameter. They clamp tight and there is no play. Measured backlash is only 0.0005".
I changed the permissions to the google drive folder. Hopefully that works now.

Re: New Build Steel Frame Router
Thanks cnckeith for the feedback.
The closed loop steppers are coupled to the 2010 ball screws 1:1 with oldham style couplers.

New Build Steel Frame Router
Ok, Finally posting here my CNC Router. Its aprox 2' x 4' steel frame moving gantry. I built it with a pretty limited tools, welder, grinder, jig saw and drill press. I used self leveling epoxy to create flat surfaces for the linear rails. I am using stepperonline closed loop steppers Nema 34 CL86T ...

Re: Acorn drive interface question
Well, guess that’s pretty clear
The Leadshine CS-D508 will work from the Acorn header provided you provide +5VDC to the +Pul, +Dir, +ENA (IF Used) from the Acorn power supply, and then the -Pul, -Dir, -Ena
to the Acorn ST, DR, EN.
I did 3 systems with them in that fashion and 2 using the ...
