Re: OPCON and USB-BOB

Got my additional hardware and made a quick CAD for a 3D printed enclosure of the USB BOB.

Using 3 60mm MPGs for the axis, and cheap buttons with external LED to test this out for my mill...

Re: OPCON and USB-BOB

It might be harder to find an industrial joystick with octagonal gating but it is really easy to find arcade sticks with interchangeable gates. To me, the main challenge would be writing the PLC such that two jog button inputs translate to the appropriate diagonal jog button input. we already have ...

The encoder for threading/tapping must be 1:1 on the spindle so the CNC can find exactly the start position every time.

Re: OPCON and USB-BOB

Well any RC controlled plane, car ect. is working with resistive Joysticks, as do lots of industrial machines, drive by wire in racing. Even in hydraulics with proportional valves like on any fork lifter. It is a more natural control than just on/off, what could be done with 4 momentary switches als...

Re: Safe Spindle Temperature?

I use dry Teflon Spray for stuff like this, slight rust prevention and no dust or chips sticking on it.

If the bearings are greased correctly, spindle temp is a good indicator of ok preload.

Re: OPCON and USB-BOB

Thank you for the info.

I had hope that the joystick could also control axis speed with a potentiometer like this one:

Re: Safe Spindle Temperature?

If new SKF are on the way, use them. I am not sure if they have used high quality bearings in Taiwan.
