Re: "Z compensation" on 4x8 foot CNC router

Have a look at volumetric compensation: https://centroidcncforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=9266 Tom, this is super interesting and an almost perfect solution for me. Sadly, it looks like this feature requires the Ultimate license which I think starts at $2,000. I only have the Router Pro license.

Re: "Z compensation" on 4x8 foot CNC router

I glue the top spoilboard down. That won't help with the machine construction, but it sounds like a lot of your issue is the loose spoilboard. This is precisely how I attached the vacuum table top to the platen. The third panel isn’t glued (yet), just composite nailed around the perimeter. With the...

Re: "Z compensation" on 4x8 foot CNC router

One more idea I had to perhaps solve for this during flattening the spoilboard: use a 8x2 foot wide panel and place it adjacent to each cut pass (flattening is done across the long side of the table). I'd have to turn on/off the vacuum and pause the spoilboard flattening process in CNC12 constantly....

"Z compensation" on 4x8 foot CNC router

I would like to do some miter folding on my CNC router, but this requires leaving .005" of material at the bottom of the V-groove. While my machine is very accurate in the X and Y axis, I have never really been able to dial in my Z axis and get the table perfectly flat... I am running Centroid ...

Re: Rough edge quality on baltic birch plywood arcs

What kind of additional tuning was done? what parameters were modified? The fine-tuning was done by a Teknic application engineer remotely. As long as your CNC computer is connected to the internet, they can schedule a remote session to do this. If I recall correctly, he remoted in and used the MSP...

Adding second Z touchplate for tool height offsets

I have a 4x8-foot gantry style CNC router with an ATC spindle, and I'm just now getting around to designing my fixed toolrack. Right now, I'm using one Avid touchplate to set tool height offsets, as well as the Z0 position at the top of my workpiece. I should also add that I have a vacuum table with...

Re: Rough edge quality on baltic birch plywood arcs

Many thanks for @johannes contribution here. You convinced me to give Teknic a ring and they did just what you mentioned: remoted in to my CNC PC and fine tuned the servo settings while it was aircutting. The results were pretty dramatic - before shot in the background, after shot in the foreground....

Re: Rough edge quality on baltic birch plywood arcs

I've at least isolated this to only be an issue that occurs on diagonal or arcing moves. Upon closer inspection of some hexagonal holes yesterday, the walls along the X axis are perfectly smooth, yet the diagonals look terrible. I think this rules out cutter sharpness and speed as an issue (correct ...

Re: Rough edge quality on baltic birch plywood arcs

Have you tried slowing things down? Your feed rate is 250ipm for this small pocket, you in a hurry? You may be exceeding the mechanical limits of the machine. Post a link to your Google photo album so we can see the machine. Is it one of those extruded aluminum frames? ShawnM, I figured my machine ...

Re: Rough edge quality on baltic birch plywood arcs

Fast cutting and no finish pass. I suppose the flats are in the direction of the lead out after viewing the g code... Also Acorn calculates the feed from the mid of the cutter, on small circles actual feed on the outside of the mill is much higher. Uwe Uwe, my apologies as I only uploaded the finis...
