I think that they have been overheating in the summer, especially when I do longer cuts. I've turned down the amps ...

Re: Losing steps?
I think my steppers may have been overheating after all. It's running currently as a test so I can't post a new report yet.
The Y axis steppers were really hot this time when it, was stuttering, last time the front one wasn't that hot but maybe the rear one on the far side of the machine was worse ...

Re: Losing steps?
The laptop stays plugged in 100% of the time (the battery life is already terrible, it's older)
This problem didn't happen before, but does now, with no change to the laptop. The change in behaviour points to it being something new.

Re: Losing steps?
Curious on the computer used as well. Need to make sure its running via an ethernet port, not a USB Ethernet adapter.
Just Ethernet, not an adapter.
It's running on an older gaming laptop (Asus ROG) that I only use for this now.
These toolpaths were made in aspire, I'll have to see what kind ...

Re: Losing steps?
I'm not sure I am losing steps. running it over the same path again and again shows that it is always coming to what looks like the end of the path. The stuttering seems to happen randomly, but the first little bit of the toolpath doesnt stutter, and it gets worse as it runs.

Re: Losing steps?
That was me running the toolpath for testing, then homing the machine in between runs. You can see those limits are sometimes several minutes apart, and the stuttering is up to 3-5 times a second

Re: Losing steps?
The first thing I would do is remove the motors and move all axis around by hand to make sure everything is smooth and easy. Grounding dust collection is important.
I'll try this tomorrow night, but it jogs at at 200in/min without any noticeable trouble, so I don't really think it's binding up ...

Re: Losing steps?
Here's it trying to run at 70in/min, 0.8s acceleration, and basically no load on the cutter since it's rerunning a cut area for testing.
And here's the Gcode from Aspire
