Re: Bridgeport series 1 centroid CNC4 to acorn conversion
Yes, same motors that came on the mill and drives that came with the CNC 4. Yes, I can still move all 3-axis using the CNC4 box with the jog buttons I just don't have the computer that I had on it or the software. Thats why I just going to switch to the Acorn. Interesting. So the "PC" wit...

Re: Bridgeport series 1 centroid CNC4 to acorn conversion
Do you have the same drives and motors? Have you had them working at all?Darrell Hall wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 1:47 pm Thanks, ordered board today. Also, the Intel NUC. Hopefully have it bench tested this week. Will update as I move along.

Re: Bridgeport series 1 centroid CNC4 to acorn conversion
Unless it is a shielded ribbon cable, I think that is going to cause problems. You really want your step and direction wires to be shielded twisted pair cables. You should never use solid hook up wire in a machine tool. Vibration will cause the wires to break at the connection. Best case is they br...

Re: Bridgeport series 1 centroid CNC4 to acorn conversion
Jason, getting ready to do the same retrofit. Did you take everything out of the CNC4 box and just leave the drives? Also I'm thinking of using a Intel NUC as my computer thoughts. Yes my plan is to remove the other boards from the CNC4 enclosure and build a new board that fits the chassis slot wit...

Re: Bridgeport series 1 centroid CNC4 to acorn conversion
Ok, I'm working my way through this and I want to try to set it up right. My drives and vcc/ground are on a 26pin IDC ribbon connection with a 3 way cable already. Would It be wise to get a break out board like this to run jumpers to the acorn or can I just strip and separate the end on the ribbon t...

Re: Bridgeport series 1 centroid CNC4 to acorn conversion
As far as setting up the acorn for permanent use, Im going to mount the main board and relay board in the original centroid CNC4 motion controller box. Even if I end up with different drives it's a nice solid box with main power switch and e stop I'll be using. I would think I could set it up to use...

Re: Bridgeport series 1 centroid CNC4 to acorn conversion
I got to looking carefully at this pic on my phone and I'm a little ashamed of myself for not seeing the fairly obvious way this works. I now see the jumpers just change which pins the driver's being input by and there is really only 5 pins of this plug active on any 1 driver board.

Re: Bridgeport series 1 centroid CNC4 to acorn conversion
Hello again everyone. It's been a year and a half since I've touched this project until a week ago. I finally got my main 240 3phase power to my machine area sorted. I have completed my initial bench test with my new CNC computer and the acorn only. Everything is communicating solid and looks to be ...
