I'm not questioning the design per se, just trying to understand it. But your explanation was extremely expository, thank you!
My question remains tho, how do other DIY acorn folks handle this? Two separate enclosures?

G540 mounting ideas. Why is it designed like this?
I'm having trouble making sense of the way they designed the case, ports and mounts on the gecko g540. I'm attempting to put all the components for cnc control of a lathe inside the same enclosure, as I assumed everyone would. The problem is that the db25 port is designed to face outside the enclosu...

Re: CNC12 Lathe. G540 config reset button problems
NEVER MIND! I fingered it out myself.
If anyone else ever has this problem, check to make sure you have your e-stop wires run in pairs. I had my NC leads run to opposite boards compared with the common leads. Silly me

CNC12 Lathe. G540 config reset button problems <self resolved>
Hello all, I've been stumped in the process of bench testing my CNC lathe setup. After using the wizard to configure cnc12 for my gecko g540 controller, the "reset" button does not appear to be tripped, though the DRO screen says "emergency stop detected". Pressing the reset butt...

Gecko g540 and 4.2A steppers. Can I add a resistor?
I'm new, and I apologize if I missed another thread that answers this question, but I'd like to ask how important the "current standby mode" is for my use case. I'm converting an 8x16 lathe and I have two 4.2A rated steppers for the two axes and a gecko g540. I don't plan to run the machin...

Re: Closed loop stepper driver compatibility
Specifically, I'm interested in trying the following driver: https://www.biqu.equipment/products/bigtreetech-s57b-v2-0-closed-loop-driver-control-board-57-stepper-motor-oled-3d-printer-parts I know it says it's for 3d printers, but I don't think that's a hard & fast rule. If my steppers are 3.3A...

Closed loop stepper driver compatibility
As far as I understand, having a stepper driver that is closed-loop is the only way to achieve closed-loop operation with an acorn cnc board. Are there any recommended drivers? I don't know what I need, if I'm honest. Would the controller packaged with a 3.5nm closed-loop stepper on ebay be fine? Or...
