Re: New Build, PM2700 lathe with Acorn, Videos and Photos <upgraded to AC servos>

Thanks. I've seen that thread. I think it might answer my question but just to be clear: it doesn't matter that the motor has a small gear on it and the spindle shaft is larger. As long as I have a 1:1 ratio from the spindle shaft to the encoder, the ratio of motor:encoder is irrelevant, correct? T...

Re: Rigid Tapping Setup

It's not recommended to put large capacitors (total 200nF in this example) across the output of an opamp. In the case of the LM4324, that max recommended value seems to be around 100pF and certainly below 500pF (where the phase margin becomes zero). It's not going to be possible to define how the de...

Re: Solidworks for $38.50 a year

The CAM integration is great, and I'm not stuck with a several hundred dollar bill annually. What CAM are you using with SW? At one point they were giving HSM Works 2.5D for free with SW but then HSM was acquired by Autodesk and it now forms the CAM elements of Fusion and Inventor. I'd assumed the ...

How to use M101 - this is from the lathe manual but I assume it's valid for mill too:

Re: Safe Spindle Temperature?

Those marks are suspiciously evenly placed, which perhaps suggests they are due to a spec of swarf or metallic particle. If so, they may be built up rather than worn away (ie convex rather than concave). Take a closer look and also use a sharp blade to determine which it is. You may well find they c...

Re: Intercon enhancement request

As stated airblast / mist / flood aren't adequate on deep cuts up to 3 x cutter diameter. (Not to mention the unwanted mess of high pressure airblast.) Almost all of my cutter breakages have been due to inadequate clearing of chips, resulting in recutting / welding. The choice seemed to me to be be...

Re: Solidworks for $38.50 a year

For me, the one-time purchase price of Alibre and Vcarve makes more sense for someone retired. I look at it with a 10-20 year lens as for the total money spent. Fusion's current price increases makes me sense that I chose correctly, but to each his own. Obvs it depends what you are using your CAD a...

Re: Rt Hand Boring Bar Rear approach machine

Are you using Fusion 360 to generate the g code? If so, you need to select the correct turret parameter for each tool in the tool library (in the "post" tab). In mine, that is "101" from memory. My lathe also has rear tool and also spins clockwise.

Re: Fusion 360 Mill Post Processor for Acorn with additional Features (New Version 5)

If I read it right, it looks like the issues you noticed were related to tool changing, rather than rapids? At the moment I am just going to try it with a single Op to see what it does with the rapids only. It's a bit of a hazy memory now but IIRC, the file names got all messed up too. Even if you ...
