Re: Upgrade Issues. Drive Faults and Jerky behavior-RESOLVED
Well, That's good to hear. One of the shocking things I noticed on the SS23 model that I have is the lack of Angular contact bearings on the ballscrews. I was looking at it one day wondering how in the world they fit them into that small bearing block. So I took it apart to find that the only ...

Re: Upgrade Issues. Drive Faults and Jerky behavior
Thanks DannyB! The Mitsubishi VFDs are high end so I wouldn't normally expect any issues. I was running out of options though. Having converting all those ShopSabres what is your opinion of the machines and their engineering choices? Just curious because of some of the things I found on mine. Of ...

Re: Upgrade Issues. Drive Faults and Jerky behavior
Ha! Tell me about it. You can't know how many times I told my wife that I thought I had it. Only to be let down again. I will let you know how it goes.

Re: Upgrade Issues. Drive Faults and Jerky behavior
Thanks again Marty,
I followed the advice and grounded both ends. I did some minor tests and didn't get any communication errors or faults. I think that may have been it.
Where do I send the money?.....;) you're a life saver!
I too appreciate the effort of all those here who offer help for free ...

Re: Upgrade Issues. Drive Faults and Jerky behavior
Thanks Marty.
I do in fact have the cable from Automation Direct. Now, did I read that article right? Did it say to ground the shielding at both ends? Everyone who has commented about shielding the VFD wire said to do it at one end only. Which is what I have done. What say you? And yes I have tried ...

Re: Upgrade Issues. Drive Faults and Jerky behavior
Thanks to all who have helped me here. I feel as though I have made a huge amount of progress. I was actually cutting parts today even though I know I still have some lingering noise issues. They all stem from the Motor/VFD I believe. My noise issues all disappear when the spindle is off. I have ...

Re: Upgrade Issues. Drive Faults and Jerky behavior
<t>Thanks for your input. While I am not a newbie CNCwise. I am new to Acorn and servos. They certainly seem to be far more intolerant of noise/interferance. The same machine with steppers did not care at all about noise. The high speed spindle cable was not even shielded and it didn't seem to care ...

Re: Upgrade Issues. Drive Faults and Jerky behavior
Thanks Marty,
My initial cable was unshielded so I bought a VFD cable from Automation Direct. Made a big difference but didn't solve it completely. I have moved things around inside my control box in order to isolate the Step/Dir from interference as much as I know how. I thought I had the noise ...

Re: Upgrade Issues. Drive Faults and Jerky behavior
Thanks Marty,
I am using the cable provided by Centroid. After reading the one tech bulletin from Centroid concerning communications errors I realized I also had some poor cable management. I have revisited that. I had the Ethernet cable running precipitously close to the Spindle motor power cable ...
