Re: Stepper Recommendation / thoughts
I've been using Clearpath for years on several machines and the setup is so easy and simple. As long as you don't buy that damn C86ACCP board to "help" wire it up. Teknic's tech support is very good and will help you size the motors for your machine. Buy the largest HP spindle you ca...

Re: Stepper Motor controller
I am not a fan of the Gecko drives at all and would never recommend them to anyone. There are of course users who have them so maybe they can chime in. At a minimum go with a "closed loop" stepper drive setup. Many here recommend StepperOnline and their products with great results. With th...

Thanks Uwe, I came out the other side ok. Power just came back on today. Man I love electricity.

Re: Spindle Fault
Uwe meant to say "invert" the spindle ok input. :D Switch it from NC to NO or visa-versa. Look at your old photos from 4.5 and see what color the circle is for your "SpindleOk" input. Then on your 5.1 install make sure the circle for input 6, which is where it's wired to now, is ...

Re: Stepper Motor controller
Scrap the old steppers and use new CL Steppers or servos... Uwe Agree, those motors have a very high inductance and are old. You even said it yourself. Start at a minimum with a closed loop stepper if you are on a budget or even better move up to a servo motor/drive setup. Please don't throw good m...

Re: Stepper Recommendation / thoughts
In my opinion and I've been using them for years, the Clearpath servos are light years ahead of any of those stepper drives you listed. They are far superior in so many ways I couldn't even list them all. Of course they may not be the cheapest but this isn't a cheap hobby and you get what ...

Thanks Nigel, it’ll be here tonight about midnight and I’m as prepared as I can be. We are well above any predicted storm surge, our house is close to 33 feet above sea level but we are in flood zone E here on the far northeast side of Clearwater. They’ve evacuated zones A, B and C expecting up to 1...

Can you get it here before the hurricane hits me? I'd like to try it before the machine is under water or blown away.

Re: Odd Shaped Bore Holes
I think your X and Z backlash values are HUGE. You may need to fix those mechanically.

Re: Spindle recommendations
I see a couple of the "inexpensive" water cooled kits on Amazon, and they do look tempting. I'd be a little nervous that those inexpensive Amazon spindle kits would introduce noise. Can that noise be overcome? Or would I just be asking for ongoing opportunities? I built my control box aro...
