Re: Confused over home switches and limit switches

If this is the standard 4 axis Acorn board you can only use NPN switches, not PNP. This is outlined in the install manual. The Acorn Six can use either type. You only need ONE switch per axis and NC is preferred for safety reasons. This is also covered in the install manual. You can easily setup sof...

I think your X and Z backlash values are HUGE. You may need to fix those mechanically.

Re: Spindle recommendations

I see a couple of the "inexpensive" water cooled kits on Amazon, and they do look tempting. I'd be a little nervous that those inexpensive Amazon spindle kits would introduce noise. Can that noise be overcome? Or would I just be asking for ongoing opportunities? I built my control box aro...

Re: Spindle recommendations

Milling with high speed is loud. IMHO aircooling with an active fan is not much louder than watercooling, but cheap spindles with fixed fan are screamers :D Best way to reduce noise is a housing. Uwe I agree Uwe, I've used several HSD air cooled spindles with 220VAC active fans and they are quieter...

Re: Spindle recommendations

If you want quiet then you can install a 2HP (or larger) water cooled spindle and VFD. You'd have to decide between 120 or 240 volt options. The 240 is of course more efficient but both will be very quiet.....until you start cutting material. :D One big drawback with water cooled spindles is all the...

Re: New Build: Axiom AR16 Elite 4x4 Router to Acorn

Sure Uwe, I guess painted metal is CERTAINLY WAY better than acrylic but raw, galvanized steel is what I see in the industrial routers on the market that I have worked on. Biesse, Weeke, SCMI, Komo, Homag, Mulitcam, they all use galvanized steel for back planes. Again, this isn't an art project. :lo...

Re: New Build: Axiom AR16 Elite 4x4 Router to Acorn

The backplane NEEDS to be metal and unpainted to help eliminate ground loops and the myriad of other issues you will run into when not using a metal backplane. This is not an art project.

Re: NC file check please

Everyone's machine is different so testing your machines custom PP may not work with other machines. You really should get the machine working first then you can edit and tweak your PP for your specific machine. If you have the machine setup for homing at start up then you can simply use the "t...

adamfromscotland wrote: Sat Sep 28, 2024 2:15 pm Does this diagram look ok using just 3 x limit switches but are not on both sides only one side used for homing etc? and use soft limits as the safety limits etc

If i was to use 3 x NPN Switches? For the acorn CNC board?

Yes, this works perfectly. A single switch at X-, Y- and Z+

Re: Confused over home switches and limit switches

Remember when I said "This saves a bunch of switches, wiring and headaches ." ??? Wire one "home/limit" switch at X negative (left side of the table), one at Y negative (front of the table) and one at Z positive (the top of travel) and your done. Why do you want to complicate the...
