Re: Clearpath setup losing steps

*RESOLVED* We replaced the signal cables and we're not seeing the noise on the Z Axis anymore. Ran an engraving program for over an hour without losing any steps. Looking pretty good now, excited to have my router operational again.

Thank you to everyone for your comments and suggestions.

Re: Clearpath setup losing steps

No, these were custom length cables for the machine. I used their part numbers for the Molex connectors and pins, but made the cables.

Re: Clearpath setup losing steps

Quick update on this, but it is still a work in progress. Swapped out the X axis motor for Z axis, same problem. Got access to an oscilloscope and looked at the signal at the Z axis and it is very noisy. Checked the other cables and they are good so something is up with the Z axis cable. I swapped t...

Re: Clearpath setup losing steps

I've tried both 6400 and 800 counts per revolution. The spreadsheet attached shows some of the combos I've tried. The older 2311 drive I was testing with only supports 800 counts so I changed the setup to accommodate it.

Re: Clearpath setup losing steps

Teknic says this motor passes all of their tests and isn't bad. Tomorrow I'll swap the X axis servo for Z and re-run the test. I do have the resistors installed per the manual. That was one of the first steps Teknic had me do. It didn't make a difference at the time. The original solution was to dow...

Re: Clearpath setup losing steps

Thanks Dave - This seems to behave the same way with or without tuning. I've probably tuned this a half dozen times. In the video the servos are running in air with no load. When mine was connected, it was lifting the head as I machined the part. At the end of an engraving routine it would be about ...

Clearpath setup losing steps

Hello - I've been having trouble with my Acorn controlled router with Clearpath servos. I thought I had everything working correctly, but on a recent engraving job with a lot of fine Z axis movements I noticed that I was losing steps. On programs with broad motions this wasn't noticeable, but it is ...

Re: Consistent drive faults on new Clearpath setup

I'm using the latest version of Teknic's MSP software and both the latest and previous firmware was included. All I had to do was pick the older firmware and update the servos.

Re: Documentation on pulse width, hold time and direction change timing

Cautiously calling this one solved (again). Downgraded the ClearPath's firmware to 1.7 and no more timing errors. The part program I had been running that would consistently fail within 30 seconds has now run on a loop air cutting for about two hours with no loss of steps that I can see. I'm going t...

Re: Documentation on pulse width, hold time and direction change timing

Thank you to everyone who replied. eng199, those numbers should be what I need to provide Teknic. I believe that the next step will be to downgrade the ClearPath firmware, which was something that cbb1962 had to do to get his working. The tech I'm working with wanted to exhaust all other options fir...
