Re: Portable CNC 5c Collet Lathe Pics
Cool, thanks. Curious how the turret works. Quite an ambitious project...very nice work!

Re: Portable CNC 5c Collet Lathe Pics
I’d love to see some pics and details of the turret, if you could.

Cool! Looking forward to some pics! When I got my Tormach mill, I didn’t think I’d like the shuttle controller but I find it’s faster and easier to use than the wireless MPG. The only thing I wish it was wireless.

Following sling here as I had grand plans to convert my 440 to run on an Acorn. What encoder ring sensor would be good for 10k rpm? I don’t often run at max rpm but do often enough.
Brendan, do you have an ATC? That’s my larger concern...how to get it working under Acorn control.

Re: Special request, encoder input scalar
Yup. High RPM encoders are tough to find. You'll be limited by mechanical rpm or electronic bandwidth, or probably, both. The ones I used were limited to about 6K rpm with the 1024 ppr resolution I chose. It takes pretty expensive bearings to handle 10K rpm and a 1000 line encoder is approaching 70...

Re: Special request, encoder input scalar
Tblough used a nice encoder on his Bridgeport conversion. I forget where he got it but they offer many options that would make fitment much easier. They weren’t cheap but not outrageously expensive either.

Re: Mill Pro upgade to digitizing bundle
That’s great! Now I don’t have to sell my older Acorn with Pro software to upgrade...thank you for finally offering this option!

Re: Precision limit switches and lathe homing
Cool, thanks for the info! I guess I’ll try them and see. I don’t mind the cost as I only need one. Would be worth it to me to have to avoid the skim cut and measure ordeal. Stupid question because I don’t use the lathe much and I’m not home at the moment...if I home X, then take a skim cut and meas...

Re: Precision limit switches and lathe homing
I am using Clearpath servos (low res versions...can’t recall the steps/rev but think it’s 800?) so, unfortunately, unable to output the encoder signal. I didn’t know DMM added encoder output capability to the Dyn2 drive. I have an unused Dyn4 drive but don’t have a motor that would suit this applica...

Precision limit switches and lathe homing
I found some precision limit switches at Automation Direct. They claim 5 micron accuracy but have only 5mm travel. Would these switches be suitable for setting X home position so I don’t have to take a skim cut and measure every time I power up the lathe?
