Re: Sigma 7 vs. Sigma 5 Drives on Acorn vs. Oak boards

I think you are exactly right about this being a Hardinge-Accuslide-Fanuc mashup, probably done by Upgrade Technologies (later Compact Machine Systems). Not clear what make or type of servos it has: will just have to wait until it arrives. An online search turned up an interesting history of these c...

Re: Sigma 7 vs. Sigma 5 Drives on Acorn vs. Oak boards

I am surprised that people are so friendly and interested. On some other forums I have been flamed for saying anything. The lathe is still sitting in Chatsworth CA waiting for my check to clear. Should ship this week to my shop in Bozeman, MT. As you can see, it is a somewhat funky-looking gang-tool...

Re: Sigma 7 vs. Sigma 5 Drives on Acorn vs. Oak boards

You guys provide great support! This gives me confidence to move forward using Centroid rather than a hybrid solution like HiCON + Mach4. So CN5 is under the plastic cover? Who knew. It does not appear in any Yaskawa documentation pictures or drawings, but the Hardware Manual PDF mentions it (as I ...

Re: Sigma 7 vs. Sigma 5 Drives on Acorn vs. Oak boards

Thanks for your comments Marty. We should probably trust that the servo amplifiers can drive the loop errors to zero fast enough to follow a contour accurately. And warn us if they cannot. I suppose one advantage of having position feedback from the encoder would be if you disabled servos, had hand-...

Sigma 7 vs. Sigma 5 Drives on Acorn vs. Oak boards

I have a couple of questions about choosing hardware to upgrade a 1999 Hardinge GT27 lathe. The Yaskawa Sigma 7 does not appear to have the CN5 (analog) connector. Does this limit any functionality of the Oak board? Is Sigma 5 the preferred amplifier for this (or other) reasons. It appears that the ...

Adjust Panel Jog Rate with Feed Override Knob?

On other CNC mills that I have used, the nominal jog speed is modified by the feed override. In the case of the Ajax hardware, this would be the analog pot on the operator panel. This does not appear to be the default behavior and I have not seen anything about such a feature in either Instalation o...

Re: GPIO4D Output 1 trouble

Yes, I would expect that the EStop needs to be closed for motors to run, but this is not necessarily incompatible with the behavior I am seeing. On my Haas VMC, the axes can be "homed" after power-on but the mill will not accept any other motor commands (e.g. Jog) until that completes succ...

Re: GPIO4D Output 1 trouble

Thanks for your comment, but if this does not have anything to do with the relay, then I am totally confused. The ONLY change I made to the system was to set parameter 5 to 1.0000 ( exactly as instructed by Ajax tech support) and this immediately caused the No Fault relay to begin functioning as exp...

Re: GPIO4D Output 1 trouble

Just learned from tech support that there is one step missing from the installation instructions for bringing up the All-in-one.

In order to get the No Fault relay to close when doing the bench test, you need to disable homing by setting parameter 5 to 1.0000.

That did the trick for me. Good luck.

Re: GPIO4D Output 1 trouble

I am having similar problem with No Fault relay on initially configuring my new All-in-One / CNC11 system. Have carefully checked all parameters specified in the manual but relay stays open. Sent tech support an email several days ago, but no response yet. When (if?) I get this sorted out, I will po...
