Re: Bridgeport (Clone) 2J VS conversion to single speed
Another great post, Tom. I did essentially the same thing, and wanted to reach 5k also :) I decided to go with a poly-vee belt instead though, and did not use split taper hub pulleys. the thing that I did NOT do was balance the motor and spindle shafts afterwards. It didn't occur to me to do so, alt...

Re: Bridgeport Spindle Encoder Design
Tom, thanks for posting up the files. The RLS incremental Encoder and RLS Magnetic Ring import fine, but I was unable to import the 2J Spindle Drive Axial Encoder modification assembly file. Doesn't that assembly file also needs every individual part file that makes up the assembly in order to impor...

Re: Bridgeport Spindle Encoder Design
What an excellent post! I have been pondering how to do a spindle encoder on my SWI Trak DPM retrofit on and off for quite some time now. This is such an elegant solution.

cnc plasma table control? (explained)
7 years ago, I went and bought an early serial number All-In-One DC controller for a CNC mill retrofit. Still not done due to several "life" interruptions, but I'm so close I can taste it. link for those curious: http://centroidcncforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=243 Anyway, I always fig...

Re: Southwest Industries Prototrak DPM conversion
Man, when it rains, it pours. The final push to wrap this conversion up is going to have to wait a while longer. Had a water pipe break in the house.
Right now, the priority is a functional kitchen and Air Conditioning again.

Re: Has anyone converted Bridgeport Vari-drive to fixed ratio?
Marty-- The conversion is complete mechanically for sure, and nearly completely electrically (probably need to add braking resistors to the VFD). Servo tuning and VFD parameter tweaking need to be done yet. Then the move distance calibrations. I want to stop seeing the trial days counting down and b...

Re: Southwest Industries Prototrak DPM conversion
Marty, thanks for the heads up on CNC12. I've waited 6 years, a little longer isn't going to kill me. This retrofit is happening in fits and starts, usually during the winter. Too much to get done outside in the 17 days of summer we have in Minnesota ;) As to the PID baseline numbers, I don't know. ...

Re: Southwest Industries Prototrak DPM conversion
The build portion is done, servos need tuning and the final calibrations for the encoders. I need to scrounge up the 600 bucks to buy the centroid software, then I'll use the 2 hour team viewer credit and have people who actually know what they're doing tune the servos. I started, got frustrated, an...

Re: Has anyone converted Bridgeport Vari-drive to fixed ratio?
CNCSNW--I stumbled into that realization before seeing your reply, but thank you for the clarification. The first time I read the post, I didn't understand the significance of the minus sign; I assumed it was simply to DISPLAY rpm on the screen as positive (forward) or negative (reverse) spindle spe...
