I guess this is independent on Acorn.
Turning any PM motor (regardless if PM servo or stepper) will generate a back EMF voltage (proportional to speed) that goes back into the driver. Whether the driver could be damaged or not depends on the driver. I'd guess mostly not, but you are generating ...

Re: Manual machining still possible?
I'm thinking about something connected by hand. You can 'feel' what's happening, like traditional machining.
Yes, I also thought about a force feedback handwheel some time ago. I think BMW pioneered this configurable rotary knob a long time ago. You could program it to have clicks, end stops ...

SX4 spindle control, keeping manual operation
Hello all,
I have this Sieg SX4 mill https://www.paulimot.de/fraesmaschinen/sx4

which I intend to convert to CNC (AcornSix board probably). I have a couple of questions regarding spindle control.

Re: Laptop for Acorn?
As Uwe stated, when the machine is running you won't hear the fans anyway. :D
Of course, although the SX4 itself is pretty quiet, gearless belt drive spindle with BLDC motor (that's the reason I bought it). But 99% of the time I am in the workshop the spindle will be off and I don't want a ...

Re: Drawing cabinet schematics, Acorn symbols?
Ah yes, Centroid provides also DWG (not DXF, but converters exist) files. Tried importing those, unfortunately there seems to be no common grid, neither imperial nor metric. Was anyone else successful at determining the used grid spacing?

Drawing cabinet schematics, Acorn symbols?
Hi all,
for documentation and planning I'd like to draw a schematic of my SX4 mill CNC conversion.
Any recommendation for what drawing program to use?
Are there any symbols for Acorn, AcornSix and all the accessory boards available?

Just purchased a Beelink N100 mini-PC, a S12 pro mini https://www.amazon.de/dp/B08DFL2L1F?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

Re: Laptop for Acorn?
Good point.
Fans should not be a problem, I can use large and slow turning ones.
But what about the A6 servos? Are they making noise all the time or only when enabled or hot?

Re: Laptop for Acorn?
Does anyone know if a N100 mini PC (such as a Beelink S12) would be OK?
It easily passes the required 1500 single core benchmark and is near silent, which is important for me in my workshop (dead quiet if compressor is not running, you'd hear an M2 washer falling to the floor).

Laptop for Acorn?
Hello all,
I don't have internet connection in my workshop so I'll constantly have to carry the control PC around for windows updates, software installations and such. A mini PC as suggested would be pretty cumbersome for that.
What about using a laptop/notebook computer? They should be plenty ...
