I agree with you and that was my best educated guess as well. The odd thing was that the issue happens when VFD is not running and in my case it was mounted far away from the controller. However, I finally figured it out and below is what happened. Also, I will definitely correct the fan ...

Oh, right and thank you for the correction! You can see some of them sticking out next to the wire nut. As I’ve mentioned previously, I took them out of the wire nut at the time I took the picture. So, sorry for the confusion and they’re there!

I do understand what you’re saying and as far as I can tell it is a star grounding. It is just few wires including 4 wires to stepper drivers, VFD common, HomeAll, and eStop. So, I feel like I could be missing something when you say impossible.
Sorry if it did upset you and I do appreciate ...

Re: Fuling DZB VFD causing GR214V to trigger unexpected steps
UPDATE
OK, grounding doesn’t seem to make a difference. Also, I think isolating AC circuit between 24V and 5V power supply and 60V power supply didn’t resolve the issue.
Next, I’m going to replace the breakout terminal with ribbon cable with metal DB25 breakout connector as it seems that it is ...

Ah, OK. I’ll try changing the grounding on the VFD cable. As for the signal wires, they are grounded at one side.
Regarding the common ground bus bar, I don’t have one and everything that needs to be grounded bonded together with the wire nut at the top right corner.
Also, ribbon cable is ...

Thank you all for your responses!
@centroid647
It happens when machine is in idle and doing nothing. I’ve also attached the picture of my setup, so let me know if you spot anything odd or unclear.
@ShawnM
Yes, I’m using one of these proper VFD cable: https://www.ebay.com/itm/145871539791?mkcid=16 ...

Fuling DZB VFD causing GR214V to trigger unexpected steps (RESOLVED)
Hi All,
I’m really running out of ideas here. My Acorn works fine on its own driving 4 stepper motors using Geckodrive GR214V. Now, when I connect VFD 0-10V with manufacturer recommended capacitor (it is worse without the capacitor and RPM is incorrect), all the stepper motors behave erratically ...

Re: CHIPS (CNC12 Highly Intuitive Probing System). The must have Add-On for CNC12
Hi Nigelo,
Ah, thank you for the explanation and that makes sense! If that is the case then I can make use of short chuck extension or length ring to make sure the tool length is fixed.
Also, my machine has VFD spindle which can do the CCW with low rpm.
With that being said and if I’m not missing ...

Hi Swissi,
I was wondering what is the reason gor fix tool holder requirement in Mode 1. Could you elaborate bit more to help understand better? My machine has everything except the tool holder, which the spindle uses ER20 collet system. How much accuracy will I be losing or what is the compromise ...

Re: Acorn + GR214V erratic motor behavior during power up and down
Ok, I was finally able to fix the issue and it was due to a ground loop issue. For those who encounter this problem, the main thing is to make sure you have star ground and no grounding connects back to the power supply rather all grounding and logic power DC- has to be connected to Acorn’s COM.
