Thank you Dana. I was certainly doing it wrong.

Re: Z Offset Issue with Rear Approach Tools

Keith -- I installed the fix and spent an hour exercising the tool library in various configurations. It looks like the Z offset bug is fixed. Thank you for that! I do have a question about X offsets though: With a rear approach reference tool (wizard set to "Gang" and "Rear"), s...

Re: Z Offset Issue with Rear Approach Tools

Now I wonder if i'm understanding this correctly. Are you saying that if the wizard is set to "gang" and "front" approach, all tool x offsets must be referenced (touched off) the front of the stock? If so, how do you go about referencing a rear facing tool to the front of the sto...

Re: Z Offset Issue with Rear Approach Tools

Thanks for your responsiveness! Can you explain why the wizard has a front/rear option after choosing "gang"? I always kinda wondered what I should choose. I have just as many front tools as rear and it's just a mixed bag depending on the job. Can I just change it to "rear" as a ...

Re: Z Offset Issue with Rear Approach Tools

I installed the beta and no change. It seems odd to me that the front/rear approach parameter would have any influence on the Z offset calculation? I can imagine a way it might affect the X offset, but Z approach is always the same. Anyway, let me know what else I can send you to help you reproduce ...

Re: Z Offset Issue with Rear Approach Tools

Keith -- I just upgraded to 4.64 and the issue persists. I will try to install the beta next, but if you can confirm that this is a known issue being worked on by the software guys I would feel better about moving to a beta build (which I assume is still set to time out). Thanks.

Z Offset Issue with Rear Approach Tools

I'm experiencing some unexpected behavior when trying to set tool Z offsets on my gang lathe. When following the instructions in section 5.9 of the manual (make Z face skim cut, set Z Ref, measure Z offset) a Z offset value of double the Z Ref is saved for the tool. The manual says the Z offset shou...

Re: Hardinge Accuslide Gang Tool Lathe Acorn Conversion

Wow! I'm impressed with your component placement and wiring tidiness, considering the space constraints. The labeled shrink wrap are things dreams are made of.

Re: Hardinge Accuslide Retrofit

It's an SMC MHS3-50D pneumatic gripper. It's a fairly common robotics/manufacturing item. I bought it for $70 on ebay. I turned a back plate and milled some soft jaws for it. It seems to work well and is powerful enough that the stock doesn't slip when the collet opens and closes. This is important ...
