Re: Need a VFD

The above is correct - to make it variable speed, the motor must be three-phase. Note, however, that the VFD itself will typically operate on single-phase input power, generating the three-phase voltage internally.

Re: Solidworks for $38.50 a year

For me, the one-time purchase price of Alibre and Vcarve makes more sense for someone retired. I look at it with a 10-20 year lens as for the total money spent. Fusion's current price increases makes me sense that I chose correctly, but to each his own.

Re: Solidworks for $38.50 a year

FWIW, I purchased Alibre CAD several years ago because Solidworks was so expensive. Alibre is a one-time purchase and does everything I need. They also offer optional yearly support/updates. There are a ton of demo YT videos on its use.

Re: Proximity Sensor issue, never trips? < solved, used NPN>

Even if the short is removed, the poor transistor is in series with it. The diode should be located right across the inductive load it's protecting the circuit from, with no intermediary circuits in series with it.

Re: Proximity Sensor issue, never trips?

The 1N4148 is unnecessary unless driving an inductive load, but regardless, is shorted as-presented. I'm not picking on you, just pointing out the issues with the above schematic in case someone tries using it :)

Re: Attaching Limit Switches Q

... Is 'Homing' something you have to do every time you turn on the machine? i.e. if the spindle isn't homed, and you turn the machine off, then when you turn it on, do you have to manually 'Home' it, for the calculated travel limit to be effective? (in which case, I'd prefer the safety of switches...

Re: cnc router is out of alignment after a few movements

"New software" meaning reloading existing code, a more recent release, or a patched version to deal with this issue?

Re: How can you improve this wiring ?

... What I find amusing is that some people use all these crazy panel mount connectors to run cables through the box, which will add another failure point, and you’ll never disconnect the box from the machine for any reason. You can’t troubleshoot anything with the box disconnected. Why would you w...

Does it work as-shown?
