Re: Finding a part for Oli-Phase rotary 3 phase converter

Thanks @tblough for looking. I looked closer at the capacitor from ebay and the numbers don't match (only the first 5) The pictures are from the inside the box however we did remove them to see what else is visible but those were the only 2 numbers. Thanks for the suggestion of Digikey and Mouser as...

Re: Finding a part for Oli-Phase rotary 3 phase converter

After looking at the entire capacitor there are no markings of farad readings or anything else for that matter.

We are making assumptions based on a multimeter reading for microFarad reading and voltage appears to max out at 600 but that's based on the panel not the capacitor itself.

Finding a part for Oli-Phase rotary 3 phase converter

Hi all, Has anyone run into using/updating Oli-Phase MP15 rotary 3 phase converter parts built my Molitor? We have several leaked capacitors in need of replacement but the business seems to be out of business (since maybe 2006). I've been calling phase converter companies but they seems to not want ...

Re: Restoring an old workstation - harddrive failure

Just to clarify: Does the motor on which you replaced the encoder, run away as soon as it is enabled, both when connected to the X axis drive output and encoder input; and also when connected to the Y axis drive output and encoder input? And to save me the trouble of reading back through five pages...

Re: Restoring an old workstation - harddrive failure

"in response to positive PID output" - what happens if the PID output is "OFF" instead of a number? When the PID output is OFF, no current flows to the motor, and no torque is applied in either direction. When your motor is running away, the PID output is not OFF. It is either p...

Re: Restoring an old workstation - harddrive failure

Wire colors are not universal across brands. There is no reason to expect that Quantum will use the same colors for the same signals that EPC used. See http://www.cncsnw.com/Encoders.htm for some tables of wire colors for EPC, Quantum, and others. If the axis runs away when you try to move it, chan...

Re: Restoring an old workstation - harddrive failure

According to EPC this encoder is 755A-01-S-2000-R-HV-1-S-S-N (flying leads / no plug ) aka "MODEL 755A - INCREMENTAL HOLLOW BORE ENCODER" and they sent me a distributor who quoted north of $360 Centroid has an equivalent for $240 for the QR12-2000-0-A-B-L-A-A (with plug) aka "1/4"...

Re: Restoring an old workstation - harddrive failure

So, you tried to jog the X axis, and the table ran away for about 21", and the encoder feedback changed by 0 counts. You have a faulty encoder, or perhaps a loss of encoder feedback. It is a mystery to me why you do not get a "411 ... full power without motion" stall condition. Perha...

Re: Restoring an old workstation - harddrive failure

What you are describing is not jogging, but is a runaway. Runaways happen either when there is a problem with the encoder feedback; or when the servo drive's output FETs are shorted through; or when the servo drive's current regulation for that axis is faulty. Thank you for teaching me the terminol...

Re: Restoring an old workstation - harddrive failure

Thanks Marc! Yes you are correct that it would have been too hard to diagnose remotely. If it is, then clearing faults is going to be troublesome, because pressing emergency stop to clear a fault will also cause a fault condition. Yup! This is something we experience and learned that in order to cle...
