Re: Free(ish) computers to run CNCPC?

Found a Dell Optiplex 3040 buried behind some stuff on the shelf. Looks to have the i3-6100 so it should handle cncpc. This one even has a NVIDIA dedicated graphics card!

If I find any others that are usable I'll post them up.

Re: Free(ish) computers to run CNCPC?

Yeah I'll have to see how many of the old G4s are still in circulation. I think we're using G6s now whenever we buy new.

Re: Free(ish) computers to run CNCPC?

Yeah I hate to see anything useful go to waste. We just upgraded a training room to our modern computers (I work for a bank) and we'll be upgrading another soon, so I'll probably have another 12 here soon. Not worth it if they're at the edge of usable though.

Re: Free(ish) computers to run CNCPC?

If no one takes them please be sure you recycle these and not take them to the dump. There are several e-recycle places all over Raleigh that will recycle these. The dump in Holly springs has a recycling spot for electronics. I'm pretty sure Wake county contracts that out to a firm that melts all t...

Re: Free(ish) computers to run CNCPC?

Eh, looks like you can get a similar unit with a HDD and win10 for $73 shipped on Amazon...probably not worth it to even pay shipping on one of these.

I'll leave this up just in case someone else has a random box full of HDDs with win10 on them. 🤣

Free(ish) computers to run CNCPC?

Any interest in this stack of Dell Optiplex 790s? Intel core i3 – 2120 @ 3.3ghz with 4gb of ram. NO HARD DRIVE. They're running windows 10 (enterprise) right now but I'm going to have to pull all drives and give them the ol' 9mm drive wipe. They do have a windows 7 key code sticker, so I'm not sure ...

Re: Centroid Acorn and a Lathe with gang tools setup

Also with gang tooling, part diameter is reduced by the more tools you add. Therefore complex parts are limited to small parts. You can work around this by using indexable tooling plates like on the Omniturns. Have a couple setup with proper tool offsets already programmed in, then swap between the...

Re: Lathe in chucker mode. How to stop Acorn slamming tools into part?

Sorry for asking but how do I move it to a safe "x" position before it moves as there is no y position in line with the spindle I can move it to that wont result in a collision. You're thinking about switching from a profiling tool to a boring tool, and then moving to a safe z position. I...

Re: Motor torque…..do I need more?

Extruded aluminum frame? Wonder if it's flexing in the middle of the span with torque applied? You wouldn't be able to tell pushing it by hand, necessarily. Maybe chuck a pencil in the spindle and tape a sheet of paper on the table, set Z to just touch the tip of the pencil, run full speed and see ...
