Re: Motor torque…..do I need more?
Extruded aluminum frame? Wonder if it's flexing in the middle of the span with torque applied? You wouldn't be able to tell pushing it by hand, necessarily. Maybe chuck a pencil in the spindle and tape a sheet of paper on the table, set Z to just touch the tip of the pencil, run full speed and see ...

I have discovered that my Y axis can still run very fast even with the planetary gears installed. It's worth a sh...

"unknown hardware failure" < windows page file size>
I have gotten this message two times now in a row. The CNC is stopped dead and the VCP is gone. The DRO side is still on the screen but the VCP is gone and the Windows taskbar will not pop up but is kind of flashing on and off at the bottom of the screen but doesn't pop up when I move the mouse to t...

Re: 10/1 gears installed!
Of course it depends on the motor, brand, etc., but as a general rule, in the same brand when you increase the motors torque (add more windings) you decrease the RPM range in which it operates well. Most decent motors will have a spec sheet that along with the specs will show a torque/speed chart. ...

Re: 10/1 gears installed!
Is that a definite or does it depend on the motor?Gary Campbell wrote: ↑Thu May 04, 2023 8:39 pm You do realize that a larger motor will most likely turn slower?

Re: 10/1 gears installed!
Let's go back to basics to see what can be done at this point to increase axis speed. If the axis stalls at 200 inch per second with 3,200 steps per revolution, what happens if you set 1,600 steps per revolution? How about 800 steps per revolution? How about 400 steps per revolution? See what happe...

Motor torque…..do I need more?
When and why would it be desirable to have increased motor torque? I’m not sure what the benefit would be for the disadvantages may be to go either way. Thanks.

Re: 10/1 gears installed!
I'm thinking the motor is stalling because it's cant spin as fast as is needed. The 200 IPM he wants, and I'm sure he wants faster as Rob does like his speed :D, the motors/drives can't do what he's asking. Apparently it works fine at speeds under 200 IPM. I wouldn't have gone 10:1 but that's what ...
