Re: Burned up Spindle - Wrong Parameters in VFD?

Sorry... I should have prefaced the post above with this quote from Muzzer. the VFD will vary the phase voltage with speed to limit the stator flux and avoid saturation, either by applying constant V/f or using vector control. This is why I am conderned about setting the VF Torque curve properly. Ag...

Re: Burned up Spindle - Wrong Parameters in VFD?

Thanks to everyone. I am especially happy to read that these settings should get me by. I say that because I have been doing a deep dive into VFD theory and I actually understand the physics. I am a electronic technician by trade so I understand inductive reactance/impedance. It makes sense to me th...

Re: Burned up Spindle - Wrong Parameters in VFD?

This may sound dumb... but I am trying to imagine why that setting would cause the motor to burn. The only think I can figure is that with 60hz each half of a cycle would be 8.33ms while at 400hz it would be 1.25ms. Maybe current flowing longer in each cycle was too much for the windings? Speculatio...

Re: Burned up Spindle - Wrong Parameters in VFD?

Thanks so much for the replies. Now that I look back at my other spindle I am sure everyone is right and that I should have set the base frequency to 400Hz.

I need to do a little more reading on the minimum, midpoint and higher frequencies and VFD theory in general.

Thanks again!

Burned up Spindle - Wrong Parameters in VFD?

So I managed to release the smoke from a brand new spindle. Whoops! Luckily the seller said I could send it back. Whew! After much fussing about and checking and re-checking my settings – and even confirming the display showed the right Hz and RPM before connecting the spindle, my spindle started sp...

Re: Spindle Not Starting via CNC12

PD11 - Freq Lower limit sets the minimum Hz to 120 which equates to 7200 RPM. It was reccomended not to go lower than that on cheap spindles.

Re: Spindle Not Starting via CNC12

Update: I think I just don't understand what the 100% button does. Evidently it takes it to the mid-range of the spindle speed. I pressed the up button and the speed increased to the desired 24K. At this point the speed in CNC12 matches the speed shown on my VFD. The settings are confusing for the V...

Re: Spindle Not Starting via CNC12

The only issue I have now is that it only goes up to 12KRPM and 5V out on the analog out.

I attached a report. I am sure I have done - or not done - something.

Re: Spindle Not Starting via CNC12

Just noticed... Spindle OK is just connected to 24V. I am getting 24V between FA and FB at the spindle... so that seems ok. One other thing... I am just doing a bench test. I do not have my stepper motors connected. Possibly a safety so that the spindle can't come on when the steppers aren't working...
