I think it does because my lathe ran that way (early Acorn) on the standard screw terminals for a month or so before I figured out it needed dropping resistors. I then changed over to the DB-25 & can't tell any difference. It worked both ways.

Ahh, thanks. I'll rewire the Acorn-to-motor driver with a DB25 cable and send 5V to the driver, instead of 24V. I'll report back how it turns out.
As far as I know I didn't fry the controller with the 24V signal. At least, there was no smoke or bad noises. But since I only used one of the motor drivers in my bench test I still have 3 more to play with (just in case).
On the other hand, adding a 1.8K ohm resister should work too. I may have one handy.

If I understand the pictures:
The board in "Sound Logic control board, wired to RSD110-6" is no longer connected.
"Closeup of wiring to RSD110-6" shows wires that go to ACORN.
COM is RED.
DIR is BLK.
STEP is GRN.
RSD110-6 manual page 9 shows the input connections. Pulse+ and Dir+ are where the pull up voltage needs to be connected.

Problem:
You have RSD110-6 Pulse+ and dir+ connected to ACORN COM. There is no pull up voltage. In other words ACORN DR2 and ST2 are just connecting ground to ground through the RSD110-6 opto couplers.

Solution:
Connect RSD110-6 Pulse+ and Dir+ to +5V instead of ACORN COM. Make sure the 5V supply ground is connected to ACORN COM.

Eng199 has it right.
The drives appear to be similar to Leadshine drives. Did you find that schematic (Leadshine DM)?

Okay. Thanks for the info. This is stretching me a bit, but with a little more help I may be able to figure it out. Here is what I am hearing I need to do:
1. Instead of hooking up the Acorn to the RSD110-6 like the Sound Logic was hooked up I need to make some changes. In other words, the "Step" and "Dir" connections on the Sound Logic are not the same as "ST2" and "DR2" on Acorn.

2. I need to connect "Pulse +" and "Dir +" on the RSD110-6 to +5vdc. I can use the "V1" terminal on the Mean Well RD-35B power supply, I presume.
And then connect the terminals wired together on the RSD110-6 (short red wire already in place) to V1. 3. Then, run a wire from COM on the Mean Well (I think I need a COM terminal bus for the multiple connections I'll need) to the COM next to "EN2" on Acorn board (where the red wire is currently shown in the picture below). 4. Insert a 1.8k ohm, 1/4 watt resistor inline from the ST2, DR2, and COM terminals to each of the 3 wires going to the RSD110-6. This means getting 3 such resistors for each axis. This resistor will step down the 24v coming from the Acorn to the 5v needed at the RSD110-6 driver. With 4 axes I will need 12 such resistors.

Here is a view of my bench test setup (before making the above changes): Is this correct? Am I missing anything?

Did you download and follow the Leadshine Schematic? Did you configure Centroid Wizard for LEADSHINE.

DO THAT FIRST.

In a nutshell, yes,
5V to +Puse and +Dir on your stepper drives
Then from -Pulse to Acorn Step output and -Dir to Acorn Dir output

The common from that dual output power supply is already connected to Acorn at its power terminals.

Follow the schematic I referred you to. I'll even attach it to this message for you

Thanks, Marty. I've got the schematic now.
I'm going out to get the 1.8k ohm resistors and will hook it all up when I get back. Will let you know how it turned out.
And, yes, I'll be sure to setup CNC12 Wizard for a Leadshine controller too.

What do you need resistors for? You dirve manual say it can take +5vdc input does it not?

See page 9 in the table it says signal amplitude 5vdc, to the right it says no resistor needed.

Success! In the end I just changed one wire - connected the 'red' wire to the 5vdc on the Mean Well (instead of to COM next to EN2).
Secondly, I did as you said, and told the Wizard it was a 'Leadshine'.
With those two changes all is working perfectly. Thanks so much for your help (and patience).
Now I feel comfortable setting up the other two axes.
