Tool Setting Options For Routers and Mills

Greetings,
New guy here. I've recently completed a retrofit of a 4'x4' Standard Router with an AllinOneDC and have "borrowed" most of this manual z set mfunc6 macro. It works as expected except for the inability to manual jog (using keyboard jog panel 'alt-j') X or Y while in the macro. Z manual jog works fine. My G28 is almost never going to be where I want to set the new Z tool height. What am I missing?
This is on an AllinOneDC.

Please ALWAYS post a report when requesting support. If your question is program or macro specific, please always post a copy of the program and/or macro as well. Without them, we don't have enough information to help you.

As I am working with a router, I would like to know what was needed for those dialog boxes to show up.
I know one lead is going to the PROBE input to the control...plate thickness needs to be known...

Nothing needs to be done in CNC12 that isn't already in the video(s).
The dialog boxes are all in the macros themselves. The macros are well commented.

Not that I recommend this method, but the reality is that along with above and beyond annotation, Scott built in a check for every setting that you need to make the touch plate work.
There is a check for "probe rates" and for plate thickness and I believe to see if an input is designated "probe trigger". Even if you do nothing (as I did the first test run) you will be fine if you take notes off the screen message boxes.

I made up a simple aluminum touch off block, connected it to a spare input, set it's thickness in the required parameter, used the macro that allows moving the touch plate as needed on the Phoenix 4X4 CNC Router and it worked very well. The user was able to learn and make parts with this method in short order. Loved the simplicy.

I'm just beginning to retrofit my CNC router with the acorn board, coming from a mach3 system without tool lengt measurement.
Could someone please describe the full process how setting the tool lenght actually works, especially the initial setting?
Here's what I think it could look like:
Before I start I put in my first tool, scratch the stock top and set this as my z0. Then I should tell the system a fixed reference z, cause normally I loose the original z0 by facing off the stock material. I imagine going to a touch off plate of a fixed known height and entering this z value somewere in the system (but where? Is that parm 71?)). On the next tool change I could then go to the touch off plate again and the system calculates the difference to the tool before and sets new z height.
A little example would be nice! As I said, I'm just beginning and there's so much to learn
