Xbox 360 controller with REWASD

Post by ScotY »

I've spent an hour or so fighting with Rewasd, trying to get it working with my Xbox 360 controller. I've got the game controller mapped to what I want for an initial trial and all SEEMS okay, but it's not working with CNC12. The Rewasd program seems quite powerful, yet minimalistic, and I must be doing something really dumb...it seems like I need to do something to make it start functioning but I can't figure out what. If anyone can offer some advice, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks!

Well, I've discovered that Rewasd is actually working but, for some reason, the key commands for the VCP aren't working. I actually am not even able to use my physical keyboard to jog the machine or make it do anything using the VCP functions. Weird. It seems the VCP does not respond to keyboard or, through Rewasd key emulation.

Thanks, Keith! I didn’t realize that would fix it. I’ll give it a try tomorrow.

Got it all working today! Selecting the menu item Keith posted above did the trick to hide the legend but you still have to select Alt-J to enable the Xbox controller to work. That’s totally not a big deal but it had me confused for about 5 minutes until I realized you had to do that. It’s a nice setup, and quite affordable.

Question...the legend shows a red icon that I believe used to be an e-stop of sorts. The legend says the Esc key is what you need to press but this does nothing. Did this get disabled in the last update to CNC12? I have an e-stop wired up but having another way to mash the button might come in handy.

ESC = "Cancel" when running a g code program. like hitting the small red button on the VCP

ESC = "Escape from menu" (back up a menu) when using CNC12 software (not running a g code program)

fyi..you can wire up as many estop buttons you like in series.

you can program the alt j right into the USB device as a single button like we did on the Xkeys pad see below.

Thanks, Keith. FYI to anyone who uses Rick's setup guide...the keypad legend is incorrect on his website. The INCR/CONT button shows Ctrl-L on his website. On the actual legend in CNC12, it has been corrected to Ctrl-i. This helped with my confusion during setup. All is well now...working great!
