Lab volt 5600 mill and 5500 lathe

Post by lilb93 »

Anyone on here ever convert a Lab VOLT 5600 mill or a 5500 lathe. I did see an early you tube where Marty did i believe a 5400 lathe.

OH Ya! :D
They are based on Sherline CNC Machines.

Post pictures of what you have. Machines, motors and control cabinet with stepper drivers. Post here.
If memory serves the stepper drivers were marked with step and direction inputs....they should be easy to convert with Acorn.
The only issue is the DC motor control...if memory serves. Take pictures of it too.

Marty

I fired both up today on manual on the front board. Everything worked like a charm. All the limit switches on the mill work perfect. Have to get the photos as soon as my daughter  brings back my camera.

WHAT? No Smart Phone? :D
Yeah, I want to see pictures of the stepper drivers (and the rest)

Looks like a conversion to Acorn would be fairly simple.
I'm guessing that what they call "Chopper Drive" is a step/direction stepper driver.

The KLBC-240DS motor driver can be interfaced to the Acorn by adding a SI-5 Signal Isolator https://www.kb-controls.co/searchquick- ... words=SI-5

Well just no time, doing a small 6040 ROUTER, and a bridgeport clone. So I just posted them on Craigslist for sale.
Would make a good Acorn conversion for someone looking for a small mill and lathe
