I want to update my spindle motor for a Bridgeport Series 2 Interact II mill. Does anyone know where to get one?
This would be a short bodied motor as it hangs upside-down in a tight space. I'm looking for a 5 HP that runs at ~3500 RPM - for my retrofit. I'm removing the brake and vari-speed mechanism and will run a VFD, but would like to get better than the 1700 RPM the stock motor provides.
I've looked at the specs described in the "Ajax Introduction to BP Boss Retrofits" doc on this web site, but the motors appear to long - as the original is only 9" from flange to back of motor.
Lesson Model Catalog # 131514 / 5HP Motor 3500 RPM
Lesson Model Catalog # 131492 / 5 HP Motor 1725 RPM or
Lafert Model HE112ME2-24 / 5HP Motor 3600 RPM ( Requires C Flange Adapter # FL112B14 )
Thanks
Jay

with some creativity you mount a new motor in the upright position..i've seen it done on a few boss machines, this will allow you to use a new modern motor.

Re: Spindle Motor for Bridgeport Series 2 Interact II
I just found this motor on Ebay and wondering if it's a true 3 HP - or if it's worth my while or not to change it out

Thanks

Oh, Boy, Jay! I'd avoid that thing like the plague!
Chinese, aluminum windings (for sure, painted to look like copper!), under-wound, under-rated, cheap-o bearings. You name it, they HAVEN'T got it on those imitation-just-like-OEM motors.
You'd be better off, and spend less to have your motor completely refurbished by a reputable motor repair facility.
