i got drive information from automation direct asking about spindle orientation and encoder input out puts
there response was below will this work ok with hickory doing a haas mini mill retro

The GS23-2020 is a vfd capable of multiple control modes including IMVF (V/F control) IMVFPG (V/F control + encoder) IM/PM SVC (IM or PM space vector control) IMFOC Sensorless (field-oriented sensorless vector control), It has seven Digital Inputs, two digital outputs, one Relay output, two analog inputs, and one analog output. If this does not answer your question, please clarify and i will attempt to better assist you.

do you need to orient the spindle for the ATC on this machine? (or does it have an ATC?)

the haas needs spindle orientation
Marty tells me the drive needs to have encoder input card. then the encoder card output goes to the centroid hickory And the drives needs to have spindle ordination . output

Theis seams backwards why does the hickory not have software to orient the spindle using the encoder . and why does the encoder need to have a timing pully for 1 to 1 why cant software be adjusted to compensate for the pully on encoder

Why rely on the drive to do the spindle ordination if there's a encoder input the current haas drive does not use the drive for that .
or am i missing some thing.

Keith
you guys need to have some VFD drive information how exactly how this works and suppose to hookup
there no videos i could find
it seams to be a gray area how to setup a drive needing spindle ordination and ridged tapping

all VFDs use an encoder card to orient, when done they send a signal to Centroid controller saying that it is oriented.
that is the way it works and has worked for 35+ years. the spindle motor you have is NOT a servo it is a 3 phase induction motor. Hickory has no way to command and control a 3 phase induction motor directly. Hickory can send a signal to the VFD and tell it to orient and wait for it to send the signal back that it is done. Hickory could control a SERVO motor spindle motor and directly command and control the orientation but that is not what you have.
